Excel Esports Gets Into Valorant With Davidp Signing
Excel Esports are ready to start branching out into Valorant as their third esport! Excel made a huge announcement today, recruiting 7x Ignition Series Champion David “Davidp” Prins, who will be the team captain for Excel Esports’ Valorant squad. Back in November, Excel rebranded, discussing their ambition to forge a unique path driven by performance and purpose. They made a sound choice by picking up Davidp, that’s for sure.
From G2 to Excel Esports
G2’s Valorant roster won all seven of the Ignition Series in Europe, solidifying their place as a force of nature in the scene. From the BLAST Twitch Invitational, Vitality European Open and WePlay! Invitational, G2 dominated them all. But now, David “Davidp” Prins joins Excel Esports to captain their Valorant team. Instead of signing a whole squad right off, they’re focusing on the Captain and Coaching staff to build a roster of support right off the bat.
Kieran Holmes-Darby, Co-Founder & Chief Gaming Officer, EXCEL ESPORTS said:
“Ever since VALORANT was first announced we knew it was going to be a title with huge potential and one that we could thrive in. However when it came to expansion we really wanted to take our time and find players and coaches that aligned with our vision so when we started talking to Davidp it felt like such a natural fit. We have big ambitions and are looking for the best and most promising talent to build out the roster and create a lasting legacy.”
It’s important to have these kinds of things in place before you have a team. Having a solid captain, performance support and infrastructure means they can make the right picks, and help the org get the players that are right for them. Excel Esports have already begun the process, by hosting player trials, which feature personality and performance tests. Excel wants to pick players that are competitive, while also match the “Power of Better” vision.
Honestly this is a smart idea. You want to have players that will mesh and work well together, and make your brand look good at the same time. DavidP spoke about the announcement in a press statement:
“I am really excited to have found a home with EXCEL ESPORTS. Since starting my journey in VALORANT I have showcased my ability to not only win trophies but grow and adapt my playstyle. I can’t wait to show everyone what we can achieve.”
Excel Esports has done quite a bit of growth over the past few months. Highlights include the “Fight for First: EXCEL ESPORTS” BBC documentary, which was voiced by Golden Globe and BAFTA nominee Cillian Murphy, and selecting footballer Dele Alli as their global ambassador. I’ve gotta say, I’m very excited to see what Excel Esports can do in Valorant. An incredible performer, Davidp will no doubt help pick the squad that’s right for the org.
