Evil Geniuses Acquire Bang from 100 Thieves

by in General | Nov, 21st 2019

After 100 Thieves imploded, many people wondered where their star AD carry would go next. Fortunately, we didn’t have to wait for long. News just broke that Evil Geniuses signed Bang. The age-old esports organization re-enters the LCS after buying Echo Fox’s spot.

First, a straightforward thing must be said: The Evil Geniuses organization is not messing around. Perhaps that’s even an understatement. After they picked up two of Cloud9’s key players weeks ago, many realized EG didn’t come into the LCS to be mediocre. Instead, they came to take over. Now, they’re taking things further with the addition of former SK Telecom T1 and 100 Thieves AD carry Bae “Bang” Jun-sik.

What Signing Bang Means for Evil Geniuses

Talk about a stacked line-up. One of the best AD carries ever to play the game, Bang is the best jungler in all of North America and a highly-impactful young support player with experience in spades. Evil Geniuses want to leave a mark and they want to do it fast. That is highly refreshing. They’re not just giving us the cliché spiel but are willing to invest money to attain success in record time. They wouldn’t be the first to do so either, as 100 Thieves made the same big moves back in the 2018 Spring Split.

Evil Geniuses want to take on Team Liquid and to solidify themselves as a Top 3 contender right off the bat. They’re making all the right moves to make that goal into reality. The fact that Bang signed with Evil Geniuses should come as no surprise. EG needed a top-tier marksman within their ranks, and it’s hard to do better than Bang, even after a pretty mediocre 2019.

Bang is, quite frankly, as decorated a player as they come. His trophy case is brimming with medals and laurels including two World Championships, two Mid-Season Invitationals, four LCK titles, along with a ton of “silver” and “bronze” medals; relics to remind him of the many times he failed to get the job done.

He will no doubt be a perfect fit for Evil Geniuses. The organization needs to find a stellar mid laner, and they should be a shoo-in for the playoffs. A world where EG competes in the LCS finals is perfectly plausible. And, if you’re an LCS regular, it’s hard not to be excited because North America just got a brand-new contender.

More competition benefits everyone involved. We’re bound to be entertained beyond measure come 2020.
