ESL Los Angeles Dota 2 Major Postponed
ESL has officially postponed the Dota 2 Major initially scheduled for March 15-22 in Los Angeles due to the coronavirus. The ESL event was to be the third Major of the year in the Dota 2 circuit.
Another Esports Event Delayed
The Dota 2 Major decision comes as a result of recent travel restrictions by the US government preventing flights from Europe entering the country for the next 30 days amid the rapidly evolving coronavirus pandemic.
This means several of the teams expected at the event can’t attend. The teams include OG, NaVi, Virtus.Pro, Team Secret, and Ninjas in Pyjamas. ESL is “working closely with Valve to determine a new time and location for the Major.” However, no specifics have released yet.
The news follows a similar announcement by League of Legends developer Riot Games. They decided that the LCS would play without a live audience. As a result, the Governor of California recommends postponing or canceling events of 250 people or more.
Governor Gavin Newsom made an official statement. “These changes will cause real stress — especially for families and businesses least equipped financially to deal with them,” Newsom said. “The state of California is working closely with businesses who will feel the economic shock of these changes, and we are mobilizing every level of government to help families as they persevere through this global health crisis.”
