Players in the community were looking forward to a new update today in Fortnite and it showed up but it wasn’t exactly the patch version that players expected. Instead of releasing new content and bringing new items to the game, the update was a smaller one that fixed some important problems.

Players Are Getting Locked Out of Fortnite Accounts

Unfortunately, this update also brought with it some new issues that we haven’t really seen before. Update 11.21 for the game began a locked Fortnite accounts issue for some players. This is a massive game-breaking problem that prevents them from being able to play the game.

It all began on the official battle royale sub-Reddit page where a player posted an image of them being one of the many locked Fortnite accounts that are affected right now. The initial post by Reddit user NebulaiOS noted that they were asked for their birthday when logging into the game again.

The user inputted the birthday for them and the game suddenly locked their account. This locked Fortnite accounts issue is not just affecting that Reddit user either as it is being reported by many users around the world at this time. It seems to be a rather widespread issue that just came about.

We do suspect that this locked Fortnite accounts issue is one that came about because of something that was in the recent update 11.21 today. Not all players are being asked to enter their birthday upon logging in, but it does appear to be mainly related to the PC version of the game.

So, if you are a PC player who enjoys playing some battle royale, we recommend that you be careful the next time you log in after downloading the most recent update. If you are asked to insert your birthday for whatever reason, we highly suggest that you simply log out of the game for now.

This is because it really doesn’t matter what you input as your birthday even if it is correct. There are users who are reporting that they have inputted their correct birthday, wrong birthday, and everything in between. No matter what you put, this screen will lock the user’s account.

For this reason, this issue has caused many in the community to start believing that the game’s servers will be deleting their account. This is an understandable sentiment, but we would like to reassure any affected players that the locked account doesn’t mean that it is being deleted at all.

Epic Games Is Working to Fix the Issue

In fact, we are happy to reveal that Epic Games has acknowledged the locked Fortnite accounts issue and is working on a fix. The official status Twitter account posted about the situation quickly. It noted that the developer is currently looking into reports regarding the login issues.

According to the Twitter account, it believes that players are receiving unintended error messages that are causing the problem. Epic Games made it clear that it “will not delete impacted player accounts during this time” and that the developer will provide an update soon.

It is hoped that this issue will be resolved soon and that players will be able to start playing battle royale again soon on PC. This is a red alert, priority issue to us so we expect that Epic Games is looking at it the same way given how fast the developer responded.

Unfortunately, there is no workaround at this time for the issue so players should be wary of this potential problem. It could be linked to the recent update 11.21 that also dropped today. It was a smaller update that addressed a few issues that were in the game.
