EA Play at E3 2019, Announcements, New Releases, Gaming News
What a time to be a gamer. The annual Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is in full swing and we already have a bunch of stuff to talk about. Many publishers and developers went big this year, delivering everything their fans expected, and then some. One of the most electric moments of the show was, as expected, CD Project RED’s booth. Not only is their highly anticipated futuristic single-player RPG Cyberpunk 2077 featuring Keanu Reeves but he also emerged onto the stage and held a brilliant speech, further hyping the game.

On the other hand, EA, a company which stated single-player games are dead, held their E3 conference over the weekend as well and fans have mixed feelings, as always. With a plethora of annual franchises up their sleeves (the likes of FIFA, Madden), as well as several exciting titles such as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. Needless to say, EA expects a lot from the second season of their highly popular battle royale title, Apex Legends. In fact, let’s go through all notable EA Play E3 news and see what we can expect from upcoming EA titles.
EA Play E3 News
As mentioned above, EA brought in a ton of news to their E3 conference. The three main stars are visible right off the bat – Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Apex Legends Battle Charge, and FIFA 20. So, let’s kick things off with the Force!
Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order
The game is set in the period shortly after the end of Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and looks quite dashing. EA showed us a fifteen-minute slice of gameplay and I’ve got to admit, the graphical fidelity is superb. As for the actual gameplay, it seemed smooth and entertaining during the gameplay segment. The environment diversity across different planets is remarkable. Additionally, you’ll be playing as a young Jedi Padawan Cal Kestis in his never-ending struggle to survive in a universe where the Jedi are hunted, ambushed, and murdered on a regular basis.

Cal and his droid sidekick
The evil Emperor Palpatine’s execution of Order 66 kickstarted the hunt and Cal has to find his bearings in order to survive, following a story-driven experience packed with distinctive environments and entertaining gameplay. And, best of all, it’s going to be a fully-fledged single-player experience with no multiplayer components or micro-transactions. All these statements are pretty bold coming from a company which, just last year, said that single-player games are dead.
Unfortunately, if you own a Switch and you can’t wait to buy Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, I’m afraid I got some bad news for you bud. Jay Ingram, a community manager for EA, tweeted out that the game won’t be coming to the latest Nintendo console. It will, however, be available on Xbox One, PC, and PS4 on November 15th, 2019.
Apex Legends Battle Charge S2
Even though the drop in popularity is clearly visible, Apex Legends is still a pretty solid all-around game. In fact, with recent updates, it’s actually even better at what it does best. And that would be providing its user base with a fast-paced battle royale game relying heavily on team play rather than individual skill.
The second season of Apex Legend was one of the hottest EA Play E3 News items. Luckily, it didn’t disappoint. With a plethora of additions coming to Apex Legends on July 2nd, a spike in player numbers is seemingly inevitable.
Among the biggest EA Play E3 News regarding Apex Legends Battle Charge is the addition of a new legend (Watson), a new weapon (L-Star), and a new game mode. On top of that, EA also announced a ranked mode allowing you to progress through six tiers. Bronze to Apex Predator, to be exact. And don’t even get me started on the all-new Season 2 Battle Pass, more skins and crafting system improvements.
FIFA 20
And finally, we’ve reached one of the most popular esports franchises by EA. The new installment in the FIFA series hopes to reinvent itself by reintroducing the good old FIFA Street mode. However, instead of releasing a brand-new game alongside FIFA 20, the folks over at EA Sports decided to merge them together. Volta Football is the name of the new game mode and it aims to bring a vivid, technically brilliant form of street football. With on the ball and off the ball changes, and alterations of the ball itself, this new FIFA 20 could bring some long-awaited improvements.
FIFA 20 gameplay changes have already been a hot topic on the site. During the EA Play E3 news conference most of those changes were pointed out and briefly explained. Balances to the 1v1 scenarios, new attacking and defending mechanics and completely revamped penalty and free kick mechanics. The stage seems to be set for one of the best FIFA games in recent years. Well, I guess it can’t be worse than FIFA 19, right?
Big single-player promises, additional FIFA 20 content, and finally agreeing to fix the burning gameplay issues… it seems as though EA is ready to turn a new page here! If you agree with me on this one and you’d like to buy FIFA 20 as soon as it comes out, you’ll be happy to hear the official release date has been set for September 27th). If you’re a PC gamer, investing in Origin Access will get you the game on September 19th. Eight days before the console peasants, mind you.
Other EA Play E3 News
Alongside the three most popular games at this year’s EA Play conference, there is more news that could spark some interest. For starters, the all-new Madden 20 promises Face of the Franchise mode bringing an NFL Draft Experience, dynamic challenges, week to week ratings, variable run-pass options and frequent playbook updates.
Furthermore, Battlefield V updates are introducing changes to the ranking system (upping the max level from 50 to 500) alongside two new maps as a part of the Chapter 4 update coming out on June 27. Marita and Al Sundan are the names and they’re bringing forth two completely different branches of Battlefield V experience. Oh, I almost forgot, the next chapter theme has been announced too, and from the looks of it, we’ll get to experience the entrance of the United States and Japan onto the World War 2 stage.
Last but not least, Sims 4 Island Living was the final announcement of this year’s EA Play E3 news conference. As its name suggests, this content update for The Sims 4 will be focusing on island life. Lots of island wear, befriending dolphins, seducing mermaids and bunch of scripted events… All the things you can expect from The Sims 4 Island Living. June 18th kickstarts the It Gets Better project with Pride content. However, we’ll have to wait another month for the actual island Living expansion. Its release date is set for July 16th.
EA Play E3 Summary
That’s about it as far as EA Play E3 news is concerned. With the E3 spectacle still going strong, we’ll be sure to bring you up to speed with other interesting news. In fact, by the time the editors publish this piece, I’ll most likely be done with the crazy Cyberpunk 2077 announcement featuring Keanu Reeves, the king of the internet.
Gotta love E3…
