EA Confirms Cross Gen Release for Upcoming Battlefield 6
We won’t likely see any official news on Battlefield 6 until next month, we can confirm it will be Cross Gen! So Playstation 4, 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series consoles and PC will all have access to the upcoming Battlefield release, which is fantastic news. This came courtesy of CEO Andrew Wilson, who officially confirmed the announcement.
The Good, And Not As Good News
Battlefield 6, in addition to FIFA will both be cross gen, which is an interesting play. One of the things that could be worrisome is that it may be visually less impressive compared to CoD or other games in the FPS genre. Having to design for the limitations of PS4/Xbox One means there will be at least some lack. That is unless they are designing improved versions for the current-gen console. Here’s what Andrew Wilson had to say:
“I had the great fortune of growing up in this company and building games on multiple generations, and I think when you think about our infrastructure around our Frostbite team, our digital services teams, and our game teams, you have unbelievable experience getting the very best out of the past generation consoles to ensure that even as we move to the next generation, we’re getting more and more out of the old generation platforms, and so those games are going to look great.”
It sounds like EA is very confident. They have a huge team working on this upcoming shooter, and as a fan of the previous Battlefield, this writer hopes it delivers. We’re confident that what will come out will be striking, but there’s always the chance that the PS5 version doesn’t look quite as great, thanks to also having to develop for the PS4. With all the noise that the CoD 2021 release won’t deliver, it could be just what Battlefield 6 needs, cross gen or not. More people than ever will have a chance to play.
We’re also curious to see if Battlefield 6 will have an esports scene, and if so, which consoles it will focus on.
