DWG KIA Outclass Gen.G in 3-0 Fashion, Win the 2021 LCK Spring Split

DWG KIA (formerly known as DAMWON Gaming) are the 2021 LCK Spring Split champions! Quick, act surprised! This towering competitive League behemoth has outclassed Gen.G in 3-0 fashion and will therefore remain atop the LCK.

And, well, it was about as dominant a showing as most of us expected.

That’s the thing with dynasties in competitive LoL — they get a bit stale after a while. At first you’re always blown away by just how incredible and more potent these teams are when compared to their peers, but then, with time, their strength and power become a lot less alluring. You know what to expect because you’ve seen them dominate time and time again. There’s no mystery whatsoever, and each time they step foot on stage to compete the outcome is always a foregone conclusion.

It’s hard to get excited about their matches precisely because you know they’re so much better than all of their competitors. And sure, sometimes it’s a bit closer than expected, but things always resolve in the exact same way.

That was pretty much the case with DWG KIA vs. Gen.G as well. It was an exciting clash, there’s no doubt about that, but it was void of any thrilling twists or unexpected turns. DWG KIA — in standard DAMWON fashion — steamrolled through their opposition. It was like watching an unstoppable force of nature annihilate everything in its path.

Even when things got a bit competitive, you knew darn well it’s only a matter of time before they found the most minute opening and blew their opponents out of the water. Gen.G, for instance, had the lead for the vast majority of game two but it didn’t matter whatsoever — DWG KIA harnessed the inherent prowess of their team fighting composition and turned the tides after being on the backfoot for over thirty minutes.

Their resilience and mental fortitude are unassailable, and it’ll take a much more dangerous team than Gen.G to even remotely punish their seemingly negligible weaknesses.

Looking Ahead

The fact that DWG KIA defended their throne in the 2021 LCK Spring Split finals doesn’t come as a surprise. They are, after all, the best team in the world right now. Still, they’ll face some stiff competition once the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational comes around. And, frankly, we’re dying to see what’ll happen and whether anyone has what it takes to compete on even footing!
