DreamHack Masters Dallas 2019 Recap | Astralis Dethroned
With June comes several top-tier CS:GO tournaments. And yes, I know most of you want to focus on the upcoming events. However, by taking a second to look back at the recently finished tournament in Dallas, we could learn a thing or two about some of the teams competing at ESL Pro League and ECS Season Finals. This DH Masters Dallas Recap could also shed some light on in-form teams that could cause upsets on the grand stages.
Teams such as Vitality and FURIA really stepped up and could pose as tough competitors. Furthermore, there’s huge news regarding the official HLTV rating. For more than a year, Astralis has been at the iron throne. Now, just days after the end of DH Masters Dallas, the Danish side has flunked down to second spot. Team Liquid, DH Dallas winners, are finally at the top spot after more than a year spent waiting in the shadows.
Needless to say, DH Masters was splendid event that’s going to go down in CS:GO history books. Not that many surprises in the end, but a few notable upsets (alongside TL’s ranking change) nonetheless.
DH Masters Dallas Recap | Group Stage
Both groups’ favorites skated through to the semifinals with perfect 3-0 scores. Of course, I’m talking about Team Liquid and ENCE. The North American team won against Lucid Dream, North and FaZe Clan while the tenacious Finns leaped over Isurus Gaming, G2 Esports and FURIA. With two semifinals and two quarterfinals contestants already decided, the group stage only had two find two additional quarter-finalists.
Luckily, all roads pointed to the lower brackets. Vitality emerged victorious in group A after being taken by surprise in their initial match against North. The French side defeated Lucid Dream, NiP, and take revenge against North to qualify for the quarterfinals against FURIA. G2 Esports, on the other hand, swept through NRG and Renegades in the LB to cement their playoff ticket.
DH Masters Dallas Recap | Playoffs
The group stage’s biggest surprise was definitely FURIA. However, their brilliant performances didn’t stop there. The quarter finals fixture saw them defeat Vitality with lenient 2-0 on the scoreboard. Unfortunately, Team Liquid put an end to the fairytale and qualified for the grand finals. They had to square off against the Finns who’ve stormed past FaZe Clan on two neck and neck maps.
As you all know, Team Liquid clinched the trophy against ENCE. However, it was not an easy task. Sure, Mirage was always going to be Team Liquid’s point, but Overpass was nothing like it. ENCE managed to secure the overtime to which they responded brilliantly. Unfortunately, even the win on Overpass wasn’t enough for ENCE to take the trophy since EliGE and Twistzz finished the third map with wicked stats.
Biggest Surprises of DH Masters Dallas
Once again, probably the biggest surprise of this tournament is the fact Astralis has finally been dethroned. We’ve already talked about Astralis holding onto the top spot for more than a year but now it’s finally happening. Just a few hours ago, the official HLTV ranking was updated with Team Liquid at the top spot.
This is nothing surprising, to be honest. Astralis skipped more than a few tournaments in recent months. Plus, even those which they played in (last two BPS events) weren’t exactly successful. Team Liquid, on the other hand, won DH Masters Dallas and IEM Sydney while also placing second on CS_summit 4 and BPS Miami and Sao Paulo events.
As for actual DH Masters Dallas Recap surprises, the biggest one was definitely FURIA. This ferocious Brazilian team made a good stance in Dallas and are announcing to the CS:GO competitive scene that they mean business. It will be interesting to see their performance in London during the ECS Season 7 Finals.
