DrDisrespect Issues Apology Over Bathroom Stream
DrDisrespect has finally broken his silence over his two-week suspension from Twitch. After Twitch unbanned him, we received a DrDisrespect apology from the man behind the personality.
The popular streaming icon, who received the suspension after live streaming from inside a bathroom at E3 in mid June, took to his real-life Twitter account under his real name Guy Beahm to apologize to fans in a video there. This came as a rather big surprise to many as he doesn’t generally mix his online persona with his real-life one, and may serve to indicate that he understands the gravity of what he did.
In the video, Doc states:
“This was my first IRL stream as The Doc and, if it’s not obvious by now, one of the things I try to stay true with is the authenticity. Real life personas are so difficult to pull off, especially in today’s society. Doc is edgy, highly opinionated, cocky, etc., and that certainly adds to the difficulty in staying authentic without offending anyone on a deeper, personal level.”
He later went on to state he and his crew had gotten caught up in the moment of the show and didn’t realize or mean any harm by continuing their IRL stream in the bathroom. This isn’t surprising given the context of the video, though it’s nice to see him address it directly, given some on social media were trying to start a rumor he was trying to film minors in there.
This isn’t the first time he’s gotten into controversy since donning The Doc persona, and it’s far from the first DrDisrespect apology we’ve seen. He returned early last year after taking a two-month hiatus from streaming, after having admitted to being unfaithful to his wife on stream. He also had his house shot at last year while streaming, the second time such an incident has occurred at his house. This is the first time he’s faced a non-self-imposed suspension of his stream, however.
The Doc also announced in the video he’d take a step back to assess the situation and had been putting an enormous amount of effort into personal and stream related projects during this time off, with his planned return to Twitch coming on July 8th. After the near record-breaking viewer count on his last return, expectations are high for another massive turnout to see The Doc’s return.
