“With Matt’s experience, talent, and vision as a professional gamer, he and his team have built one of the most authentic brands in the ever-evolving gaming space,” Braun said in an official release. “We are honored to join the 100 Thieves family during this exciting phase of their professional journey. I personally could not be more thrilled for 100 Thieves. This is just the beginning.”
According to the official release, Drake and Braun will act as the team’s strategic advisors. Braun will also join the Board of Directors. Drake and 100 Thieves previously collaborated on the custom gaming stations that travel with Drake’s tour.
“It’s been exciting to watch esports become a cultural phenomenon in 2018. I’ve spent my ten-year career in esports growing the ecosystem and am proud to have Drake and Scooter join as my partners to help take 100 Thieves to new heights. Our top priority is to win world championships, but our ambitions go far beyond competitive gaming,” said Haag. “With Drake and Scooter’s support, we’re going to build a lasting brand on the back of the content and apparel that our fans have come to love, aggressively expand into more games, scale our apparel business, and build a world-class management team.”
100 Thieves was founded in 2016 and is one of the fastest growing esports teams in the world. The team competes in League of Legends, Fortnite, Clash Royale and Call of Duty. The team found immediate success in the North American League of Legends Championship Series by finishing second in the 2018 spring split and fourth in the summer split. They went on to compete at the 2018 Worlds in South Korea but failed to make it past the group stage.
100 Thieves prides themselves on being a lifestyle and apparel brand. Their past four drops of gaming-inspired streetwear sold out in less than 20 minutes. 100 Thieves and Drake have an apparel collaboration underway already. Expect to see Drake focus on the apparel side of things.
