DragonX Creates Powerhouse Team for LCK 2020
Not too long ago, Korean team Griffin let their squad leave to be free agents. There was a lot of League power in that team. No matter how you feel about cvMax, they were a pretty fantastic team. Now, it looks like DragonX took the opportunity to add some real power to its 2020 LCK team.
The team features familiar Griffin names, alongside two newcomers. A member of Kingzone DragonX is also moving to the main DragonX LCK roster. This team has a lot of promise and will be under cvMax and the Griffin boys. But wait, wasn’t cvMax suspended indefinitely?
A Change in Plans
We recently covered the Kanavi and cvMax Griffin drama. Since then, a 200,000-person petition was addressed to South Korean President Moon Jae-in concerning Kim “cvMax” Dae-ho. From what I hear, someone in the government got involved and now the suspension has been rescinded.
A third-party organization is reinvestigating the allegations between cvMax and the Griffin players. Riot apologized for their lack of transparency in this investigation initially. While cvMax is presently DragonX’s coach, this could change somewhere down the line.
ESPN.com translated a statement from Riot Games in late November: “The committee accepts that it has not earned the trust of the players on the fairness on the penalty that was applied to [cvMax]. Hence, we have decided to postpone the penalty that was previously issued on cvMax. Also, the committee will commission a new investigation to a trustworthy external party including the law enforcement.”
I still don’t agree with that coaching method, we’ll have to see how that develops. Now, let’s talk about the new DragonX LCK roster.
DragonX Rises with All-Star Roster
The newest DragonX announcement is mid laner Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon. He is the first professional player to reach an overall 100 KDA in a professional league.
Whoever comes to the mid lane to box with him is going to get flattened by his mighty magical fists. Chovy helped bring Griffin to three LCK finals and the 2019 World Championship. They didn’t win, but it was a hell of a showing.
Top laner Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon also joins DragonX from Griffin. He shared the limelight with Choi “Sword” Sung-won. Doran can play a nice variety of top laners, including some of my favorites.
Next up is the hyper-aggressive ADC Kim “Deft” Hyuk-kyu with a wealth of experience across several teams. Hopefully, he’ll bring his crazy strong Jinx skills to the LCK year. This could be DragonX’s year for a Worlds Trophy.
Newcomers to the Field
In North America, it seems we don’t put a lot of stock in our trainees. Instead, NA teams like to hire outside of NA. That’s fine, I guess if you don’t want our scene to get stronger.
The first trainee support is Ryu “Keria” Min-seok. Support is the most crucial role on the team. You need to have serious synergy with your ADC. Luckily, Keria and Deft team up together quite frequently.
Keria’s the long-time duo of Deft and is an incredible support player. Even if they are new to the big time, they have experienced players surrounding them.
Hong “Pyosik” Chang-hyeon is the new jungler for DragonX’s LCK team. He’s talented on Kindred, Nidalee, Lee Sin and more. He can play wild picks in the jungle, which is important in the major leagues.
Deft might be one of the best ADCs in Korea. Pairing him with the Griffin lads and newcomers will have major possibilities. Though I’m a newcomer to the LCK, I’m intensely excited to see what this team can do in 2020. They might not reach the top 3, but I have high hopes for the DragonX LCK roster.
