Doublelift to Fight for Starting Spot on Team Liquid

Big news out of the LCS. Team Liquid star ADC Doublelift, the most domestically most successful player in the league’s history, has been semi-benched from the starting line-up.

No Motivation to Play

In reply to Riot Games caster Jatt, Team Liquid owner Steve Arnhancet revealed that while Doublelift recovered from illness this past weekend, the starting ADC would be evaluated weekly for now. “Peter is thankfully feeling better, this is not because of any illness,” the tweet reply read. “We will be deciding week to week the roster that will play on game days.”

The news follows Liquid’s first 2-0 weekend of the Split after subbing in Academy ADC Tactical for the first time. The young rookie surprised many with strong gameplay in lane and team fights. On his Twitter account, Doublelift acknowledged the situation as a benching. Doublelift stated: “I’m benched because I had no motivation until very recently. Being sick and unable to compete gave me my passion back, but too late. I’m sorry towards every one of my teammates and I’ll be working from now on to regain their trust.”

With recent rumors of unhappiness in the team over Doublelift not practicing in solo queue, Doublelift’s comments insinuated that he wasn’t taking the Split seriously because Spring Split didn’t matter.

With his recent string of poor performances, many fans questioned if Doublelift should follow in the steps of fellow star ADC Uzi over in the LPL. Uzi took some time off from the Spring Split to rest and refocus himself. With fears of Doublelift burning out, Liquid fans question whether their much-beloved ADC should do the same.

Tactical will start on the main line-up this weekend. Former 100 Thieves ADC Rikara replaces him on the Academy line-up. This allows him time to practice with the main squad ahead of their upcoming matches.

As always, we’ll continue to keep you updated as the situation develops.
