Disney Melee Mania Is a Wild MOBA With Elsa, Buzz Lightyear, Mickey, and More

Disney is a company that has begun diving more and more into video games lately, with strategic partnerships with publishers and developers to make games based on its various franchises, including Star Wars, Marvel, and more. However, none of them are as wild as the new Disney Melee Mania game.

Disney Melee Mania Is a Disney MOBA Game

Disney Melee Mania is quite literally a MOBA game that includes nothing but Disney characters battling it out with one another in gameplay that is similar to that of other games, including Arena of Valor and Pokemon Unite. Normally, a new Disney game would be interesting on its own, but this one is simply crazy.

The debut video from Disney Melee Mania shows the characters from across the various animated films and franchises joining together on a standard-looking MOBA battlefield to take one another on in combat. This includes the likes of Elsa and Mickey Mouse dueling to the death, and more.

If you have ever wanted to see Buzz Lightyear shoot laser beams at Wreck It Ralph while he jumps in to do a powerful ground pound while Maleficent is casting some devilish spells in the background, this is the sort of game for you. The announcement trailer is pretty crazy enough on its own, even though it is under a minute in length.

That said, while Disney Melee Mania is unlikely to be the League of Legends killer or even a true competitor in any way, it is a MOBA game that could be quite popular in its own right. After all, the power of these Disney characters coupled with potentially fun gameplay could be a recipe for greatness.

Release Date Is Currently Unknown

12 Champions Will Be at Launch

There are only 12 champions that are going to be available at launch, including beloved icons from across both Disney and Pixar franchises. Only 12 is a pretty small number, but we do already know about seven of them that will be in the game from the announcement and trailer.

The six that are shown off in the initial trailer include Elsa, Mickey, Ralph, Frozone, Maleficent, and Buzz Lightyear. However, the announcement also mentions that players will be able to go into battle as Moana, leaving only five unknown characters at this time.

While the trailer shows off mainly a Deathmatch-style match where you are playing for kills against your fellow Disney stars, there are multiple game modes planned for the experience. Presumably, Disney Melee Mania will have the standard towers and base-focused MOBA mode as well.

There will be cosmetic items that players will be able to unlock and equip on their characters, including costumes for your favorite characters to make them your own and trails that will follow after you. It’s also teased that Disney Melee Mania will have regular events for players to check out and give a reason to keep coming back for new rewards.

Hopefully More Characters Are on the Way After Launch

It also seems that not all 12 of the champions will be available to you right from the start of the game since it teases that you will want to keep playing to unlock new characters and upgrade their powers. Hopefully, this also means that new champions will be added to the game regularly.

Disney and Pixar characters are unbelievably popular around the world, so only having 12 of them is a disservice to the legacy of the company. After all, how nice would it be to see Lightning McQueen crashing into characters like Rapunzel with her whip-like long hair and Dumbo with his tank-like elephant body?

Admittedly, moving away from the novelty of the Disney Melee Mania game and description, it does not look all that great visually in my opinion. It definitely feels like it is even more of a beginner’s MOBA than Pokemon Unite is already and the graphics leave something to be desired.

That said, it is a free game for Apple Arcade users and as one of the subscribers currently for terrific games like Fantasian, I do look forward to booting it up for a bit and see how it is. Since it is locked behind a paywall of the subscription currently, this is something that is not going to be as freely available to everyone for the foreseeable future. However, I will be sure to circle back in the near future with my thoughts on it once it releases.
