Diablo 2 Resurrected Server Issues Continue Despite Launch Day Maintenance
In unsurprising fashion, Diablo 2 Resurrected released today, Thursday, September 23, to rampant problems online for those players looking to connect and play with others around the world. In fact, at the time of writing this, the Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues still continue.
Diablo 2 Resurrect Server Issues Are Running Rampant
The Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues are rampant currently, with countless reports from users online of not being able to engage in many of the features that are necessary to actually enjoy the game in its entirety. Worse still, this is despite the efforts from Blizzard to contain the problems. Earlier today, Blizzard tweeted out that the Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues that include game creation and character problems are being worked on. To help with this, the game was going to undergo emergency maintenance for the online servers.
That was posted this morning and the emergency maintenance for the Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues began at around 10 am PT, which was a couple of hours ago at the time of writing this post. The maintenance was only meant to last for around 30 minutes in order to fix the problems. During that window of time, so long as a player had already authenticated, they would be able to continue playing Diablo 2 remastered offline and enjoy it without worry. However, the maintenance for the online servers has lifted by now and it seems that they were not as helpful as hoped.
Emergency Maintenance Did Not Fix the Issues
Though the maintenance is now done and the servers are “back online”, the actual game is still having some insanely common and diverse Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues for players. This is something that Blizzard had to follow up and respond to recently, noting that it is still being worked on. The developer noted that it is continuing to work on problems that are affecting the game creation and characters, and thanked the community for its patience today as these problems are addressed. A later tweet also noted what the issue is and what the plans are for fixing them.
The number of players at launch have surpassed that of what Diablo 2 Resurrected previously had during the early testing periods, so capacity is being expanded to make room for them. However, in the meantime, there may be more restarts necessary in order to fix the problems.
Social Media Is Filled With Users Noting Their Problems
Meanwhile, social media and the comments are filled with complaints about the rampant Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues. One user in the comments noted that wasn’t this what the alpha and beta tests were for, to test the servers before the full release. But, while the testing periods did happen, it seems that they were unable to prevent the server issues that are happening now on launch day with so many new players logging on at once. Another player noted in the comments that they forgot to log out before the server maintenance began and now they are missing him in the main menu screen. Fortunately, they were able to log out and reopen to find the character again, but they noted that he seems to have lost a few levels in the process.
The core problem with this whole situation is the fact that players have to verify their account and authenticate in order to play offline. If you just bought the game right now, you may have a hard time getting through this process and then being able to play offline by yourself. That is a huge issue since you would be locked out of the game essentially without being able to play because of the server issues. But if you were able to authenticate in time, you should be able to continue playing offline with your offline character in the meantime while the servers are fixed.
Diablo 2’s Frustrating Online Issues Are Unsurprising
At the same time, though, there is an issue here as Diablo 2 Resurrected follows up on its original PC version by forcing players to create offline and online characters that are separate from one another. If you wish to play offline, you have to create a character to play alone. But if you want to play online, you have to create a totally different character to be able to play with other users and connect to lobbies. This is a huge problem since it means that the progress that you make offline will not actually contribute to the online character when the servers work correctly, meaning that you will need to start all over there if you want to play with friends.
This is frustrating for a game that is modernizing one of the most popular and best western PC RPGs of all time. Diablo 2 is a beloved title and the remaster of it is exciting for fans waiting for Diablo 4’s inevitable release, especially since it has cross-play. You can play with anyone across consoles and PC together to dungeon through hell itself, and that could be part of the problem with the current Diablo 2 Resurrected server issues. No matter what the root of the problem is, though, this is something that is honestly not too surprising for Blizzard.
Diablo 3 is a game that is infamous for the online issues it had, perhaps more so than any other game in the history of the industry, and Diablo 2 Resurrected is seemingly following in its footsteps by continuing to have those same issues. This is unfortunate for such a strong game that many have been waiting years to see remastered. Diablo 2 Resurrected includes both the base game and its expansion, all seven characters remastered, and a hefty $40 base price tag for the normal version on consoles and PC.
