Dell Announces UltraSharp 4K Webcam With AI Auto Framing

by in General | Jul, 1st 2021

The brand new UltraSharp 4K webcam from Dell definitely warrants a bit of our attention! This high-end product will set your back for a whopping $199.99, but at least it’s packed with some fairly alluring tech. It’s easier to set up than a standard DSLR (plug-and-play), comes with Sony’s STARVIS CMOS 8.3-megapixel sensor capable of recording (or streaming) in 4K at 30/24 FPS or 1080p at 24/30/60 FPS, and is touting “best-in-class” image quality all for a relatively acceptable (albeit still premium) price tag.

What Can It Do?

You can fine-tune its field-of-view — from 65 degrees (a more intimate close-up), 78 degrees, or all the way up to 90 degrees for the widest possible shot. It also comes with numerous tweaks and features (like automatic light correction) that will make you look as good as possible regardless of your lighting set-up.

With 5x digital zoom and autofocus, it’s well-equipped for a bevy of different use-case scenarios, including Zoom calls or a bit of Twitch streaming. It works without any drivers on both Windows 10 and macOS, but the grunt of its most appealing features can only be accessed through Dell’s Peripheral Manager software.

You’re Always Front and Center

The ability to track its subject is arguably the most interesting feature packed inside the Dell UltraSharp 4K webcam. It’s pretty much the exact same thing as Apple’s Center Stage — a slice of the future, no doubt. It also comes with an infrared sensor and can be used for Windows Hello facial recognition. It’s not exactly the most secure way of logging in, but it’ll definitely come in handy. This powerful little webcam comes with two different mounts: a standard “clamp” style one for your monitor along with a separate tripod mount.

The only real downside is that it doesn’t come with a built-in microphone. That, in short, is quite a big omission. Then again, USB microphones are pretty cheap (and mighty powerful) these days, so perhaps that’s not such a bad thing after all; that way you’ll be able to adjust everything to your liking, although it is a hassle and definitely deserves a mention. This basically means that you’ll need to invest a lot more money into your set-up, but you’re probably not looking at the Dell UltraSharp 4K webcam if you’re looking for a budget option anyway.

Pair it with a Blue Yeti or a Razer Seiren and you’re good to go! All in all, while this particular webcam might not be everyone’s cup of tea, it’s still a well-rounded product and will provide its users with a bevy of unique features, most of which simply cannot be found elsewhere.
