Critical X Partners with Esports Mogul to Enter Indian Esports Scene
I didn’t realize the esports scene in India was that intense. It seems that Esports Mogul (ESH) has taken its first major steps, thanks to Critical X which has a built-in fanbase of more than five million people.
There are more than 400 million smartphone users and India is after all the second-largest mobile market. Their mobile market net worth right now is over $2.4 billion. That means there is naturally going to be some heated esports competition on cell phones in India. But this partnership is significant in my eyes.
Mogul Strikes a Crit
Critical X is a company that organizes tournaments in India. They also manage talent and work with some major events like Rage Quit and We Love Lan. This isn’t the first time Esports Mogul and Critical X have worked together though. In the past, they’ve teamed up for free tournaments on a variety of games.
PUBG Mobile, Dota Auto Chess and Tekken 7 are just a few examples that reached their maximum participant capacity. The two are working together to launch a branded hub to offer paid monthly subscriptions. The target demographic is mobile gamers in India.
The subscription will offer members access to exclusive tournaments, priority registration and entry into raffles. Who doesn’t love a shot at cool, free stuff? Having access to online tournaments for a monthly fee could be pretty big, depending on the payouts for these events. Whether it’s the in-game currency, cash or other prizes, it could be a pretty big deal for the serious amateur players.
The paid monthly subscriptions and pre-registration for tournaments will begin this month. I can only imagine there will be separate exclusive tournaments, alongside regular tournaments that these members can pre-register for. It’s worded clumsily, so I can only guess that’s what they mean.
The Nitty Gritty
According to The Market Herald, Mogul will retain 80% of revenue from the monthly fan subscriptions and 20% revenue from advertising. Mogul has also integrated Paytm to accept local currency payments in the region.
More games will added, too. Critical X and Mogul will also launch a new tournament series for a few other games. These two have confirmed cash prizes, so if you play either game, make sure to get into it.
Mogul’s Chief Marketing Officer Mark Warburton commented on the partnership:
“This partnership with Critical X is an exciting time for Mogul, as not only can we expand Critical X’s offering to their community, but it signifies two key milestones for the company – entering the massive Indian market and integrating with a local payment gateway, Paytm, to accept payments in India’s local currency.
We are excited to work alongside the Critical X team to develop their subscription and tournament series to engage and expand their large fan base as well as attracting more mobile gamers in the region to Mogul.”
Paytm make it much easier for players around the region to join in these tournaments and that’s always a good thing. I’m curious to see what other games will join in these tournament series.
If they reached participant capacity in PUBG Mobile, Data Auto Chess and Tekken 7, I could only imagine what they’ll do with other serious mobile games. I’d like to see Hearthstone, CoD Mobile, alongside some new up and coming esports games on mobile.
Could we see growth for Summoners War or even the new card battler Teppen in India? We don’t have further details of what they could run, so those are just speculative. All I know for sure, is it sounds like an exciting time to be an esports fan in India.
As long as the subscription is reasonable and there are enough regular tournaments and benefits of this system, it sounds like a good deal to me.
