College Esports This May

The time for collegiate level esports is back! Collegiate StarLeague, the world’s biggest college scene, is getting their show back on the road with this month’s Grand Finals. The 2019/2020 season concludes on May 30 and May 31. The Grand Finals teams are eligible for some great scholarships and prizes, totaling $215,000. Now that’s a brilliant number to see, especially for school scholarships!

Don’t worry, we’ll all be safe during this though. This will be produced remotely, with staff and casters all being online and away from others. The Collegiate StarLeague’s Grand Finals will include League of Legends, Dota 2, CS GO, MTG Arena, and Rocket League.

This will be the first MTG Arena pro/esports content I’ve seen yet, so I’ll certainly be trying to tune in to see what decks are brewing at this level. Where is this going down? Why, the CSL Twitch channel, which you can find on their website.

“We are ecstatic to be able to host the CSL Grand Finals after we had to pause in March,” said Wilm Stocks, CEO of WorldGaming Network & Collegiate StarLeague. “Our collegiate season culmination is the perfect medium for CSL collegiate players and teams to showcase their skills on a grand scale while representing their schools, even as everyone continues to safely shelter in place. There is nothing like the rivalry of school vs school competitions, all the more heightened given the 2019-2020 Grand Finals and Championship titles and scholarships are at stake.”

The winning teams will be picking a piece of that massive scholarship prize pool, thanks to the generous support of the CSL sponsors: HyperX, Gamestop, and Efuse. They also have support from content and broadcast partners Twitch Student and Beasley Esports’ CheckpointXp on Campus. We’re just glad to see more esports coming back on the air, and this is something that can easily be done remotely.

We’re hoping for these to be a massive success, and can’t wait to see who comes out on top of the Collegiate StarLeague Grand Finals!
