CBLOL Team Uppercut Esports Founder Has Passed Away
The League of Legends community was hit with some hard news on January 14th. André Marden, founder and CEO of Uppercut Esports, has passed away at the age of twenty-seven. While the cause of death is unknown at the time of this writing, André spent a good chunk of last week in the hospital. This news comes as a shock to many in the LoL community and especially fans of Uppercut Esports.
André Marden’s close friends and family were aware of his health issues, and according to Uppercut Team Director Samuel Rehbein, André was fighting a bad case of pneumonia that could have caused further complications.
He was one of the more prominent figures in the Brazilian esports scene and was once the administrator of Ilha da Macacada, one of the biggest Brazilian League of Legends groups on Facebook. His dedication and passion for competitive esports and League of Legends paved the way for him to establish a professional League squad back in 2016.
As for Uppercut Esports, they have just started playing in the CBLOL 2019 Summer Split and have managed to finish the first week of competitive play on a high note. They were able to take down both Keyd Stars as well as KaBuM! e-Sports and are currently tied for first place with Flamengo eSports and Redemption eSports Porto Alegre.
Marden’s contribution to the Brazilian LoL scene will be felt for years to come. We can only hope that his team will continue performing as well as they did over the weekend.
It doesn’t matter if you’re a fan of the Brazilian scene or not, the League ecosystem lost one of the good guys today, and that’s a shame, especially at such a young age. Marden was a respected figure in Brazillian esports and will be missed.
Our condolences go out to Marden’s family and friends.
