Campus Legends Returns for Season 2

by in Collegiate Esports | Jun, 25th 2020

Over 95,000 viewers tuned in for 2019 for Campus Legends, and that’s a more than reasonable success. So when we heard that Campus Legends was coming back for Season 2, we were honestly excited! The inter-tertiary competition returns next week (July 3rd) and will run until August 9th! Not to mention, it will feature two of the biggest games in Singapore: League of Legends and Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.

Intense MOBA Action

Season 2 of Campus Legends promises to be quite exciting, with both of these MOBAs on tap. I’ve recently joined in on all the hype of Mobile Legends, and find myself enjoying it more than I normally do League of Legends. Perhaps the shorter match time has something to do with it.

Either way, Season 2 begins with qualifying rounds on  July 3rd, for Institutes of Higher Learning (IHLs). This is where student teams will have an opportunity to represent their schools. The winners from here will go to a group stage, to try and secure a spot in the Grand Finals.

Don’t worry, the matches will be scheduled to avoid school hours and exam periods, so they won’t have to miss any important lectures. Thanks to COVID-19, Singapore has had to adjust the format, so it will be all online. This will let students participate while having fun and keeping the safety of themselves and loved ones in mind.

SGPlaysTogether Campaign

We’ve also learned that Campus Legends Season 2 supports the Singapore Esports Association’s #SGPlaysTogether campaign, in addition to the organizer SCGOCA (Singapore Cybersports & Online Gaming Association)’s efforts. These efforts are to support their community, such as providing engagement programs for nearly 1,000 students during the circuit breaker period. They will also provide students with need with laptops for home-based learning.

Nicholas Khoo, Chairman of SCOGA discussed this news:

“It’s really humbling to know that SCOGA can make a difference, not only to local esports through our various programmes, but also to other aspects of Singaporeans’ lives, through the various initiatives the team has stepped up to implement in the past few months and especially during the circuit breaker period,”

But what about prizes? Prizes will be awarded with the notion of reinforcing the importance of education. Cash prizes will be awarded as scholarships in the form of Post-Secondary Education Account top-ups. Physical prizes from Samsung and JBL will also be given out, who are partners of Campus Legends. The importance of a good education cannot be overstated. So seeing these esports tournaments that focus on helping the players get money for school is brilliant. If you live in an area where this is going down and want to take part, you can do so here!
