Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded: Payload, Blueprint Blitz, More

by in Call of Duty | Jul, 14th 2021

Call of Duty Warzone is getting another massive batch of new content for players to enjoy in Season 4 later this week. The Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is coming soon, offering new game modes, weapons, features, and so much more.

Warzone Season 4 Reloaded Release Date

The Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is scheduled to release later this week on Thursday, July 15. Better yet, players will be able to update the battle royale game early before the new content begins in the title so that you are ready for everything as soon as it is time.

Starting at around 9 p.m. PT on July 14, the update for the Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded content will be released. At that time, players will be able to get in there and start downloading the decently sized patch so that you are ready for the next day when the new content begins.

Unfortunately, the leeway for downloading the Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is not nearly as substantial as for the Black Ops Cold War players who will have a whole extra day to install the patch before Thursday arrives.

This is something to keep in mind for players who have slower internet or data caps for the month, as the update will be a solid one, but fortunately, almost no platform goes above 10GB in total. Each platform is different across both generations and PC, so here’s what you need to know.

For players on PS5 or PS4, you will have the same download size for the Reloaded update at around 8.9GB in total. For players on the Xbox Series consoles, it will be slightly more at 9.2GB. Xbox One is the same as the newer Series platform with 9.2GB as well.

It depends on a couple of factors for players on PC, but mainly whether or not you have both Warzone and its original companion game Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. If you only have the battle royale experience on your computer, you are looking at 9.2GB in total download size.

But if you are someone who has both games on your computer, you are looking at a slightly larger total of 10.4GB. That said, PC users will also have to have a certain amount of space free on their hard drives to install the update, but this space is only temporarily needed. It varies from around 12.4-12.9GB that you will need free while the patch is installed.

It is a sizable update for sure, but nothing too intense. That said, Warzone players will find a good amount of game modes and features that will be dropping with this update. While there are no new map changes, there is enough to keep you tied over until the next season begins potentially.

First Objective Mode: Payload Explained

The new content in Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded starts with the first of two brand new game modes that are coming out: Payload. For the first time, Warzone is getting an objectives-based game mode that has nothing to do with the usual mechanics of its modes.

This is nothing like battle royale or Plunder, where the objectives are to be the last team or player standing alive at the end or having the most money, respectively, and, instead, features something wholly unique. Inspired by game modes of past Call of Duty titles, Payload will be an exciting new addition.

The general idea for Payload in Call of Duty Warzone comes from the classic War Mode available in 2017’s WWII. How it works is that the player counts will be much smaller in this game mode, as the mode reduces the players to only 40 in total for the entire match.

The 40 players in the match will split up into two teams of 20 each, racing against time to complete the objective they have set before them. Fans of the classic Overwatch game mode of a similar ilk may be excited for this mode that will offer something different for Warzone players.

How it works is that the two teams will alternate each round between the attacking team and the defending team. The job of the attacking team is to get to the vehicles that are carrying satellite parts that are crucial to the balance between the war of NATO against Perseus.

To win the round, escort these vehicles to the checkpoints on the other side of the map. However, the catch here is that there are multiple vehicles to focus on. The attacking team has to get all of them across the checkpoint line to win the round before the time limit runs out.

On the other hand, the defending team has a seemingly easier job as they need to stop the attacking team from escorting the payloads to the checkpoints within the time limit. However, the twists do not end because there are multiple vehicles in each round to escort.

The defending team can not only take out the other players on the opposite team to stop them from escorting and making progress, but you can also hinder them from winning by building obstacles that will stall the vehicles on the tracks until they are taken care of. You can obtain these obstacles by purchasing them.

This will all take place on the massive Verdansk 84 map, with each player having their custom loadout to bring into battle and the ability to look around the map for loot, including money and killstreaks to help in fulfilling your team’s objective for the round.

That same money will then be used at the buy stations around the map to pick up killstreaks and the like and the obstacles for the defending team to use against their opponents. Payload sounds like a unique version of the fan-favorite game mode, and we cannot wait to see it in action later this week.

Blueprint Blitz Explained

Another new game mode has been announced for the Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update, but its actual release date is set for later on in the second half of the fourth season, rather than this week. It is known as Blueprint Blitz, which will feature a new limited-time event.

The Blueprint Blitz event will feature a new game mode of sorts that is just battle royale mixed with the double XP weekends that we have had in the past. The general premise of this new game mode is taking cues from the Contraband Contracts that we had in the past.

If you missed out on those special contracts, you would have a second chance of sorts with the Blueprint Blitz event. In this event, how it works is that after you have completed two regular contracts in a match, you will automatically get a Contraband Contract for you and your team.

If you can extract it from the drop zone successfully, you will complete this contract and receive a permanent weapon blueprint reward for your collection, along with a ton of cash to use in that same match. Collectors will want to check this out for the chance of getting free weapon blueprints pretty easily.

The weapon blueprints that you will be able to earn are the ones from previous seasons that you might have missed out on before. For those who were able to get all of the past weapon blueprints, we do not currently know what the special contracts will reward you with, instead. No release date for the event has been announced, but stay tuned for more details before the season is over.

The Red Doors

One of the most intriguing parts of the Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded update is that The Red Doors on the map of Verdansk are grown or expanded in some way. It is hard to tell since much of the text about it in the patch notes is redacted and covered up.

This is likely to keep spoilers out, much like last year with the introduction of The Red Doors in Warzone, but it still adds to the mystery of them all. Players who stumble upon these doors in battle royale should step into them and be among the first to know what is on the other side.

As for the actual purpose of the doors, it is likely similar to last year, where it is simply here to tease what is next for not just Warzone but the Call of Duty franchise as a whole. We imagine that this tease is leading to none other than the reveal of the next Call of Duty game.

Heavily rumored to be called Call of Duty Vanguard, it is a follow-up and/or sequel to 2017’s WWII from Sledgehammer Games. We already know that Sledgehammer is the developer once more, so it stands to reason that it is a sequel to one of the most well-received Call of Duty games in recent memory, both from critics and players alike.

As for when we will find out more about Vanguard, we imagine this teaser in Warzone is leading up to a full reveal at the end of this month or in August. That would certainly follow the same general schedule used last year for the eventual reveal of Black Ops Cold War.

New Guns and Gifting

Elsewhere in Call of Duty Warzone Season 4 Reloaded, players will find a killstreaks available for the title: the sentry gun. This new killstreak will allow the player to summon an automatically firing turret. It is similar to its incarnations in recent Call of Duty games with an almost 180-degree radius.

It will search for enemies in front of it and shoot at them automatically while it is around. It is stationary, though, so it is best used for the later rounds when you are holding down a building or point in the smaller circles. It will only last for a minute before it will leave the match.

You can find the sentry turret killstreak as extremely rare legendary item drops in the supply boxes found in The Red Doors. The sentry turret is joined by two new weapons debuting in both Warzone and Cold War. One is the OTs 9 SMG that looks pretty crazy, while the other is the Mace melee weapon.

Both weapons have in-game challenges to complete in Warzone to unlock them and add them to your loadout if you want. And lastly, the update comes with the new gifting feature in Warzone. From now on, you will be able to give the battle pass and various store bundles to your friends by purchasing it and sending it to them as a nice little present.

Details about how this gift will work and what will be available for giving away are currently under wraps, so stay tuned for more details in the future.
