Call of Duty Warzone Season 2: Shipwreck, Zombies, More
Raven Software is still ensuring that Call of Duty Warzone is the premier experience in the franchise for battle royale and free-to-play titles. As perhaps the biggest Call of Duty game of all time, it continues its triumphs with the Call of Duty Warzone Season 2 content.
Call of Duty Warzone Season 2 Is Here
By the time you read this, Call of Duty Warzone Season 2 will already be here for players to download and check out. So, if you haven’t already, be sure to check out the latest patch for your platform of choice and download the fairly hefty one if you want to play all of the new content this season.
The second season of Call of Duty Warzone is interesting as it follows the trend started last season in connecting with the latest mainline entry: Black Ops Cold War. With these two titles connecting, there are account crossovers, weapon exchanges, and more.
So, not only is there new content that is specific to Warzone in Call of Duty Warzone Season 2, but there is some new content that is going to be shared simply by connecting with Season 2 of Cold War. That means that some of the new weapons and characters from that game will also cross over.
Of course, this doesn’t mean that Call of Duty Warzone Season 2 isn’t without its fair share of unique content. Fans of the game will find a lot of content this season for sure, like new game modes, some changes to Verdansk, and a whole lot more. Without further ado, let’s take a look at everything that you need to know about Call of Duty Warzone Season 2.
New Map Locations: Shipwreck, More
A new season of content wouldn’t be the same without a new map or other areas for you to check out in the game. In Season 1, we received a brand new Black Ops-themed map (though not new at all, honestly), but this season will not give us another new map, it seems.
Instead, it looks like we are getting some major map changes this season that will make one particular older location a whole lot better in the end. The original Verdansk battle royale map is getting a much-needed update here for the first time in about two seasons with some new locations and more.
Among the map changes that are here in Call of Duty Warzone Season 2, the most notable one is the brand new point of interest that has appeared on the map. There is a new location that is known as Shipwreck. It is a massive new named location that you can visit this season.
Before the season began, players could see a large ship off the shore, and it has now come ashore. In the process, though, it has wrecked onto the land and created the new Shipwreck named location. This point of interest is likely to be a hotspot in Season 2.
This is because it is new, but it is a huge ship and area to explore that we couldn’t find before. You will always find a ton of loot here that you will pick up, but there is more to it than just that. It also introduces a brand new mechanic to Warzone.
When you visit the new Shipwreck location, you will not only find the other players who are trying to claim its loot for their own, but the undead is stalking its vicinity as well. That’s right; Zombies are coming to the massive battle royale title in a semi-permanent way.
When players visit the Shipwreck point of interest, you will have the undead standing in your way between you and the precious loot that is here. But they aren’t just here for show as there are some rewards for taking them out. You will get a unique yellow key occasionally when you kill them.
This key can then be taken to yellow crates to grant you some very special and powerful loot that will give you a nice boost towards winning that battle royale match. We realize that you won’t have a ton of time to explore Shipwreck in most matches but, perhaps, it will be an excellent and popular addition for Plunder now.
Beyond the addition of the Shipwreck location, there are other more minor changes to the map this season. For one, there are several spots that we have seen thus far that have been removed from the game. For instance, the most shocking one has to do with the subway.
The subway is still relatively new and something that we like, but it has been removed from the game from now on, which is unfortunate since it offered a fast travel system of sorts. The other significant change is that a good portion of the bunkers has been closed off for the time being.
New Game Mode: Exfiltration Explained
Players will have some new map changes to explore and a new game mode to explore it in. Well, at least, you’ll be able to later on in Call of Duty Warzone Season 2, at least as this particular new game mode is coming later down the road.
The new mode known as Exfiltration will be a new addition to the arsenal of game modes. It is unknown if this will be a limited-time experience or if it will be available permanently in the game, but regardless, it is good to have something new in Warzone.
This game mode is all about the exfil chopper showing up in the game and being useful for once before the end of the match like in most normal battle royale matches. In this match, it is otherwise a pretty normal battle royale experience minus one significant change.
That change has to do with the exfil chopper where a portable radio will suddenly appear somewhere on the map. A player will grab that radio and then call in the chopper to win the match immediately. However, there is a catch in this.
The radio will not let them win immediately just from finding and picking it up. You will have to hold onto it for a while to win the game for you and your squadmates (or just yourself if you happen to be playing alone).
But that would mean that the player who finds the radio first and takes it from the enemies who are also trying to get it would win the match just for potentially being close to the radio’s location. The feature that is there to balance this is that the player with the radio will be revealed to everyone on the map.
Everyone will know where that player is and how much longer they have to hold it to win. So, you could easily take them out and claim them for yourself. But if no one uses this method for escaping, it will otherwise be a pretty standard battle royale match with the last person or team standing winning it all.
Rebirth Island Resurgence Extreme
While the new Exfiltration game mode will be coming out later down the road in Call of Duty Warzone Season 2, there is one new mode available right now, and it is for the game’s second map: Rebirth Island. The remake of Alcatraz Island has a new mode for players to check out exclusive to it.
This new game mode is known as Rebirth Island Resurgence Extreme. As you likely already know by now, Resurgence is the main game mode for Rebirth Island, in which players have respawns on this small battle royale map for as long as their teammate is still standing and the countdown hits zero.
But for this limited-time mode, Resurgence Extreme will take everything that you know and love about the original and turn it literally to a 10 with a whopping 90 players on this map at once. Rebirth Island is not made for 90 players, so this will be one of the most chaotic experiences ever.
We can understand why this game mode will be a limited-time one since it is far too crazy and messy to be balanced enough to be a permanent addition. Ninety players in this tiny vicinity will not turn out well, so good luck trying to be number one here.
But the respawns help with this as it will be difficult for teams to nail down the entire squad all at once. Simultaneously, though, there are so many players that it will be hard to go anywhere on the island and not have to fight several people, so keep that in mind.
Resurgence Extreme is available right now for Call of Duty Warzone with the new season’s launch and will be for a limited time only. If you are a masochist who would like to see the true punishment of this insane game mode, go right ahead and check it out while still here.
New Weapons and Operators
Moving away from the general new content and changes in Season 2 for Warzone, some shared content is happening for the game courtesy of Black Ops Cold War. As we mentioned, these two games are connected and, as such, share some content.
So, when something new like a new weapon or character joins Cold War, it is likely that we will see them also come out in Warzone at this point. As such, you can expect several new weapons, characters, and even some other changes from here on out.
Starting with the new weapons that we have, we have the FARA 83 assault rifle. This one is unlockable through the Season 2 battle pass at tier 15 and will be usable as one of your loadout weapons from then on. But at the same time, you might find this one just hanging around the game as floor loot, too.
The FARA 83 is a fully automatic rifle with one of the fastest fire rates around, a fantastic range for fighting, and solid damage. It isn’t probably the best AR in the business, but it will be a good contender and well worth picking up.
The new SMG this season is the LC10. It doesn’t look like this will break the game, either, as the Mac 10 did before it, but it is a full-auto SMG with an excellent range compared to its predecessors, reasonable fire rate, and low recoil, the cost of lesser damage compared to others.
If that isn’t enough, a particular weapon is coming out soon, known as the R1 Shadowhunter. This is a special crossbow weapon that will offer some quiet and effective assassinations in the game. We aren’t sure this one will come out for Warzone, too, but we are hopeful.
And last but not least, there is the ZRG 20mm sniper rifle. This new rifle can one-shotting a player from the chest up, but it does have a slower fire rate. However, it makes up for this because its bullets are faster than any other rifle in its class and the reload speed is excellent.
Four new operators are joining Black Ops Cold War in one way or another and will be playable in Warzone. The first is Naga, who is important to the Cold War’s current story and is a Warsaw Pact character who is unlocked right at tier 1 of the new paid battle pass.
The next three characters are from the NATO faction and are Maxis, who you will likely know well from Zombies, Wolf, and Rivas. All three of these characters will be available in Warzone through separate store bundles released later in Season 2. But if you want someone right now, Naga is here for you in the battle pass.
