Call of Duty Warzone Reaches More Than 100 Million Players

In just over a year, Call of Duty Warzone has gone from one of the newest battle royale titles on the market to one of the largest in the world. The game’s popularity is unparalleled, and we now have a new milestone to celebrate in terms of the Call of Duty Warzone player count.
Updated Call of Duty Warzone Player Count Revealed
The new Call of Duty Warzone player count was announced this week on Twitter, revealing a whopping 100 million players and counting that have visited the battle royale game. With this insane number of players, the game reaches one of the biggest milestones possible.
This puts it clearly on the pantheon of biggest battle royale and online multiplayer titles alongside fellow genre games like Fortnite, Apex Legends, and more. This will not likely stop anytime soon as the game is also one of the most popular titles when it comes to streaming.
As one of the most consistently popular games for both streamers and viewers on Twitch, it looks like the community surrounding the battle royale game is only going to continue to grow from the 100 millions players that it has already reached.
The last time we heard about the Call of Duty Warzone player count officially was last year, so it has been several months since the last time that Activision and Raven Software have let us know how many users are actually playing the battle royale game.
This Marks Significant Growth This Year Already
The last time we heard about the official Call of Duty Warzone player count, the game was around 80 million players and counting. With this updated milestone, it looks like there are at least 20 million more players than late last year.
That is significant growth to mark the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021, with only more likely to come. Perhaps the most intriguing part of all of this is the fact that Warzone is not exactly an old game at this point. While it may feel like it has been around for a long time, that isn’t the case.
The battle royale title in the Call of Duty series just celebrated its first anniversary early last month, making it only just over a year old at this point. That means that in about a year since its surprise shadow release, it has already reached more than 100 million players.
And to make things even crazier, the new updated Call of Duty Warzone player count comes at the right time when we are on the precipice of potentially the biggest single change to the battle royale game since it launched over a year ago in 2020.
Huge Events Are Happening in Call of Duty Warzone
This week marks the release of the Operation Rapid Sunder event. This special event will happen and will change the future of Verdansk and Warzone as a whole forever. It seems that this will be a massive live event in the veins of what Fortnite has been doing for years.
To celebrate the first anniversary of the game (well, close to it at least), this operation is happening. As the rumors and teases have suggested, it is where we are going to see the biggest changes to the original Verdansk map since it launched in March 2020.
The operation is likely where we will see the culmination of the zombies event that has been happening. There have been so many undead-related events throughout Season 2, from zombies appearing on the map to spreading to various locations.
There have even been reports of players turning into zombies and the possibility of a nuke hitting the map soon. With the undead horde taking over the island, this operation live event will likely see a nuclear weapon decimate the map to contain this growing threat.
We pretty much have proof of this already with the leaked nuke missile appearing in the middle of players’ matches. We have already seen footage of the missile in action, flying down from the sky and landing directly in the middle of the Verdansk map.
How Will This Affect the Future of Warzone?
What remains to be seen is how the Operation Rapid Sunder event will affect the future of Verdansk. The past leaks and rumors have suggested that the map will be leaving the game, for the time being, replaced by a brand new battle royale map that will be Black Ops Cold War-themed.
However, this is uncertain, especially if the teases we have heard recently are believed. It would seem that Verdansk is going to stick around in Warzone, but the map will see some massive changes, unlike anything seen in the game to this date.
There is only a little bit of time left until the start of the operation, so check back soon for the start time for the event and how to get into it. But if you are busy with work, school, etc., that is understandable since the event is happening in the middle of the workweek.
As such, be sure to check back later this week for our full breakdown of the event, what is going on in Season 3 for Call of Duty Warzone, any new maps or map changes for the battle royale title, and even the new content for Black Ops Cold War.
