Call of Duty Warzone Player Count Reaches 6 Million in 24 Hours
Call of Duty Warzone released on March 10, after formally announced the day before it. The sudden announcement and launch of the battle royale title was unexpected but known due to the numerous leaks, rumors, and clips of the game.
Warzone Player Count Milestone
Players around the world are excited to see what Warzone has to offer. In just first 24 hours since its launch, the Call of Duty Warzone player count has reached some impressive numbers.
On the first day, the Call of Duty Warzone player count reached over six million players and counting. The official Call of Duty Twitter account announced it to celebrate the first major milestone for the battle royale title.
In the tweet, Activision noted the Call of Duty Warzone player count includes the players who “dropped into” a match. It went further to thank players for their support and noted the game is “just getting started.”
The player count will likely climb much higher than this. After all, it just released. Also, nothing stands in the way of someone enjoying the game since it is a free download on all three platforms.
Though directly tied into the Modern Warfare experience, it can technically stand on its own two feet. Likely, it is considered its own separate game since it has a standalone version on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Given the open nature of Warzone, more players will likely jump in once they hear about it. After all, we saw some impressive record-breaking numbers for Call of Duty Mobile last year.
Unfortunately, we don’t have specifics regarding how many of the players are in Warzone in the standalone version or part of Modern Warfare. This would be an interesting stat to find out.
How the Warzone Launch Compares to Other Similar Games
This author has jumped into the game but the free to play downloadable version not connected to Modern Warfare and doesn’t require purchasing it. By comparison, several other free battle royale games are available on the same system.
Apex Legends followed the most similar format of announcing at the last second before releasing. It had 25 million players within the first week and 50 million within the first month.
Warzone could potentially meet those impressive numbers in its first week, but it is hard to tell at this time. Fortnite had 10 million players in its first two weeks and 125 million players within a year.
The Call of Duty Warzone player count will likely surpass the 10 million marks before its first two weeks. But will it reach the overwhelming success that EA and Respawn Entertainment had with the launch of Apex Legends?
What Unique Features Warzone Has to Offer
One of the most unique features is something that we haven’t seen fully utilized. After around seven matches, we have not had a single match where the player count reached the max 150 and stayed there.
Perhaps only one match started there, but players quickly left. Other ones have, at best, reached around 135 before starting the match. This is strange because the game boasts a larger overall player count per match than other major battle royale titles.
Likely because the game is still rising in popularity or players are prone to change their minds and leave matches before they start. Regardless, that is far from the unique feature that Warzone has to offer players.
Another one is the fun and engaging Gulag system in place for when a character dies. Dying in the game isn’t permanent and you have a say in whether you will come back. Dead players will be placed in a line for a duel against another dead player to determine who comes back.
Even that scratches the surface of what Warzone has to offer. Other gameplay features include contracts that let you complete additional tasks for cash, a set of vehicles, a massive map to traverse with a variety of environments, and the Plunder non-battle royale mode.
If you want to check out Warzone, you can download it right now for free on PS4, Xbox One, and PC or update Modern Warfare to have it part of your main lobby. The two Call of Duty titles simultaneously shares all progression, levels, and items.
