by in Call of Duty | Oct, 20th 2020

Activision has revealed that a new holiday event is happening in both Call of Duty Warzone and Modern Warfare this month as Season 6 continues. In celebration of the Halloween season, there is a new Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event that will be here for a limited time.

Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk Start and End Dates

The Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event has likely already begun if you are reading this post. The new spooky Halloween limited-time event has kicked off in the battle royale title as well as Modern Warfare, offering players some spooky twists on game modes and even maps.

That’s right, the Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event is live right now as it started in the middle of the night. It will stick around through Halloween until Nov. 3. Players will have roughly around two weeks to enjoy everything offered.

That isn’t a ton of time to enjoy this special holiday event, but it is a good enough time to at least check out everything presented and pick up some goodies in the process. The Haunting of Verdansk is a spooky event that brings with it some special game modes and rewards.

Whether you are a battle royale player or someone who likes Modern Warfare, you will have something Halloween-themed to check out. Before we dive into the specifics of what each game has during this two-week event, here are the new cosmetic items that you can pick up.

Two Horror Franchises Join Call of Duty

What may surprise people is that there are two new bundles that you can pick up during the Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event. What’s surprising about them is that they are all themed around certain characters that you might happen to recognize.

That is right, two popular horror movie franchises are officially joining the Call of Duty series for the very first time. With the event now available, you can hop into the store and pick up two bundles based around the Saw and Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchises, respectively.

The first of these two bundles has to do with the Saw movie series. The Saw bundle allows the player to turn the already existing Operator Morte into none other than Billy the Puppet from the movies. Billy is ready to start killing people left and right in battle royale.

In the Saw movie bundle, you will get the new themed skin from the series and get the Phlebotomizer lethal equipment piece that is essentially a different skin for the throwing knives set. This special throwing knife will drill directly into your enemies if you can land it, eliminating them in a very bloody way accurately.

It doesn’t stop there as the Saw bundle also comes with two Saw-themed weapon blueprints, one for an assault rifle and the other for a shotgun, as well as a cargo truck skin, tricycle charm, and four other pieces of cosmetic gear for you to collect.

And if Saw isn’t your favorite movie, maybe you would be more interested in the Texas Chainsaw Massacre set. In this bundle, players get a unique skin for Velikan that turns him into the serial killer Leatherface. In addition to that special skin, players will get the Family Heirloom LMG weapon blueprint with a unique chainsaw-like attachment for the stock.

The bundle also comes with a new melee blueprint that turns the secondary into a one-handed hammer plus a new SMG blueprint weapon if you like that category, a vehicle horn, and five other themed items centered around the Texas Chainsaw Massacre franchise.

If you aren’t here for either series, Activision has come up with its unique horror characters. You can pick up a new skin called Dr. Karlov, based on a Verdansk urban legend. The bundle that includes the character gives a skin for Bale, two weapon blueprints, a new throwing knife, a vehicle skin, and some other cosmetic items.

JAK-12 Shotgun Makes Its Debut

What is surprising about this Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event is that it comes with a brand new weapon. The JAK-12 shotgun is here, adding a new powerful close combat weapon to the shotgun category.

What is unique about this new shotgun is that it is a fully automatic one with a ton of firepower capable of decimating entire squads quickly if they are unfortunate enough to be close to you. It has a fire rate that is faster than any other weapon in its entire category.

Leveling it up will unlock some impressive attachments and the ability to fire off explosive frag rounds that will blast enemies away. The 32-round drum magazine will give this shotgun the largest magazine in the entire game for a shotgun.

There are two main ways that you can pick up this new shotgun weapon. You can get it either through an in-game challenge set that you can complete for it or through the blueprint variant you can get in the store with the new Lacedaemon bundle.

Two New Limited-Time Modes

There are two main limited-time modes that players will check out in battle royale during this Halloween event. The first one isn’t super special, but it is enough to shake things up from the usual battle royale formula. Select battle royale modes will get a twist during the Haunting of Verdansk.

Including trios and others, some of the game modes will now feature a nighttime version of Verdansk for the very first time. This version will all take place at night and feature the full moon illuminating an otherwise very dark atmosphere for battle royale matches.

Thermal optics may be really important in this mode as it will be rather hard to see enemy players from pretty far away. This spooky new version of Verdansk will be the perfect grounds for the new Saw and Leatherface skins to reign supreme and terrorize the locals.

If that isn’t enough, some new spooky sights and sounds that players may encounter while running around the nighttime map. There is a creepy doll supposedly found on some TV sets while there is a ghost of the chainsaw killer around the Krovnik Farmland.

There are even rumors that there is a ghost train at the train station that is certainly not one you will want to board. This special nighttime version of the mode is also the centerpiece for the long-awaited Zombies Royale game mode that is here during Halloween.

In Zombies Royale, this special battle royale format takes the nighttime map and makes it even crazier. Death isn’t permanent in this game mode as all dead players will be sent to the undead horde instead of the Gulag when they are taken out.

The zombie players will then have supernatural abilities like better speed, melee, and thermal vision to help them take out the other players around the map. Interestingly enough, if you die and leave your squad alone, that doesn’t spell the end of your time as a human.

Every person that you kill will drop a syringe on the map that everyone can see. If you collect two of these as a zombie, you will be miraculously turned back into a human. The last team to have a human player remaining will win the match even if the rest of the squad are zombies at that time.

Trick or Treat Inside Verdansk

While in the new Zombie Royale game mode or checking out the nighttime version of the map, there is something else that players may find around the Haunting of Verdansk. Players will be able to trick or treat in Verdansk, finding specially marked supply boxes containing some unique rewards.

These trick or treat supply boxes will contain special rewards like the epic Return to Dust assault rifle blueprint, the Cleaver legendary melee blueprint, a holographic watch, charms, stickers, sprays, calling cards, and emblems. These items will be yours to keep after collecting them.

But there is a trick included with this treat. While you might be treated to some nice items, you could also end up with a trick that will result in a brief scare, so players should open them in preparation for some frights potentially happening as well as getting special items.

If you collect all 16 individual rewards in the trick or treat supply boxes, you can get the ultimate prize, which is the Pumpkin Punisher legendary assault rifle weapon blueprint. But these free trick or treat items will only be available for this event’s duration until Nov. 3, so don’t miss out on them.

Halloween Festivities for Modern Warfare

Of course, if you like Modern Warfare, you will not be disappointed either. Though the Call of Duty Warzone Haunting of Verdansk event is focused mainly on the battle royale experience that players will have, Modern Warfare is included as well.

There are some special Halloween features that Modern Warfare players will be able to enjoy in multiplayer. It all starts with the new cosmetic changes not necessarily to the maps you will play but actually to the operators themselves you play in the multiplayer matches.

Whether you like it or not, every player is capable of taking on a spooky aesthetic if certain conditions are met in the middle of a multiplayer match. The first change happens when a player can reach three kills with one life.

If they can accomplish this, they will find that their head has turned into a jack-o-lantern to celebrate Halloween. If you see someone with a pumpkin head, know that they are on fire right now and are likely to take you out next.

But the head issues don’t end there as players who can reach the impressive stat of 10 kills with a single life will then have their pumpkin head be set aflame. If you see someone like that, know that they are the true horror of the match and should be avoided at all costs.

There are also some cosmetic changes to specific game modes to give them a creepier vibe. For instance, the flags in Domination will now have scarecrows hanging out on them, so be prepared for that. In Kill Confirmed, you won’t be collecting dog tags but skulls instead.

There are two new game modes to check out as well during the Halloween event. The first one is one that players may already know well: Snipers Only. For this version of Team Deathmatch, all other weapons have been removed from the loot pool in favor of only sniper rifles.

If you aren’t a fan of sniping and long-range combat, then you should probably stay away from this game mode as it may be terrifying to you for all the wrong reasons. Onslaughter is the other new game mode, but this one is about the horror of its own.

This is a twist on an escort-style mode where players take control of the Juggernaut suit. This powerful suit includes the ability to blast away all enemies with a minigun as you are escorted to a particular area on the map.

So, your team’s goal is to get to the suit first and have one of your teammates get into it. But if you are on the opposite side of the Juggernaut, you need to take it down as fast as possible. The Juggernaut suit in Onslaughter would come with a special pumpkin head version if this monster weren’t scary enough already.
