Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Max Rank Improvements Teased

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare released in late October 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC with a lot to offer players. A new singleplayer campaign was welcomed after the missing one in last year’s game, along with a refined traditional online multiplayer, Special Ops missions, and more.

As part of the significant changes that the game made with the release of it, there were significant changes to how the progression system works. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that the progression system experienced an entire overhaul that made it quite unlike anything else.

Instead of the traditional prestige system that players had grown accustomed to in past games for the last decade or so, developer Infinity Ward once again showed why it is the original creators of the series. It did this by redoing the progression system in an all-new way.

However, not all players were happy with the changes presented in the new leveling system as time has gone on. One frustrated player recently reached out to Infinity Ward developers to express their concerns about how it is working at this time.

Modern Warfare Max Rank Improvements Teased

This is the potential chance at seeing some Call of Duty: Modern Warfare max rank improvements that could help fix issues that players have with the progression system. All the teases and hints at this began with a Twitter user.

Twitter user BulletYT_ posted their grievances with the current state of the progression system in the game. They noted that there is no prestige system in the game at this time, so instead of that, would it be possible to earn a unique icon when the player hits the max level in the game.

Bullet went on to note that this would at least “fix the issue of not having the true grind in this game.” The user ended the Twitter post by tagging two of the employees who work at Infinity Ward and are great about responding directly to fans on the social media platform.

In response, Joe Cecot, co-design director of multiplayer for Infinity Ward, took the time to give a reply directly to the Twitter user. Cecot has been known to respond to posts like this on social media directly and it is the same case for this situation.

Cecot responsed that he “definitely” thinks that there are some improvements that the developer can make in this area. The small response is enough to tease and give some hope to players looking for some Modern Warfare max rank improvements.

However, the hope for improvements to the leveling system doesn’t end there. Not only did Cecot respond to the post, but another Infinity Ward employee gave their tidbits. Joel Emslie, the art director for the studio, also replied, merely giving a positive response to the whole situation.

It implies that something is in the works for Modern Warfare max rank improvements if the co-design director and general art director are giving their thumbs up for something being on the way.

This whole fiasco began because of the controversial changes to how the progression system works. It eschewed the traditional prestige system that players knew and loved in favor of something that is supposed to help players not have to reset their levels.

How the Prestige System Worked in Previous Games

Before, how the prestige system worked was that players had a max rank that they could reach in the game’s multiplayer experience. Once you reached that max level, the game wouldn’t continue to give you levels at all, but the progression in the game wouldn’t end there.

Instead, you could prestige in the game if you wanted to at the cost of some things. You could lose all the hard-earned levels reached in the game to be reset back to square one (aka level one). Doing so was a difficult decision, but it wasn’t without benefits.

Players who prestige and reset to level one would be rewarded with various cosmetic items, such as emblems, golden skins and so on.

At the same time, it meant players would appear at a low level in the game again. They would miss out on a good portion of the items unlocked throughout the multiplayer levels. For instance, if you unlocked a gun at a certain level, you wouldn’t have it anymore.

You would have to level up again to that same level where you first unlocked it to have it as part of your inventory and loadout again. The one exception to this was typically the opportunity to keep one weapon or item in the progression system locked so that you wouldn’t lose it.

Though there are issues and exceptions to the prestige system, it was around for so long that it became synonymous with the Call of Duty persona of the series. It defined the series, much like the overall aesthetic and the fast-paced gameplay.

Some fans were disappointed by the lack of the prestige system for this latest game in the series. Others were overjoyed at having a new system that fixed many of the issues with the prestige format.

After all, it also made sense for there to be some Modern Warfare max rank improvements in a game meant to be a soft reboot of the Modern Warfare sub-series of games. This game takes ideas, settings and some characters from the original series and brings it to the modern day in 2019.

How the Current Progression System Works

Under the new system, players can reach a new max rank of 55 in the game. This max rank is unlike the prestige ranks in other games where you never lose this rank. Never in the game will you ever have to reset your level back to one in multiplayer for any reason.

This also means that you will never lose weapons and items unlocked for the first 55 levels. You never have to worry about unlocking the same gun repeatedly.

In place of that, though, there is another level resetting. It comes in the form of 100 additional officer ranks that a player can progress through once they have reached the max level of 55. These ranks are seasonal and reset with the start of a new season.

This effectively makes the new max rank in the game level 155. Those 100 levels are always changing with each season and the rewards that players can get for progressing through them. When the next season starts, everyone resets back to the original max level of 55. You start over with the next 100 officer ranks.

The problem is that players are not left with a lot once they reach the max rank. Hence why the Twitter user reached out asking about any possible Modern Warfare max rank improvements to the system.

It makes sense for players to be rewarded for their efforts in making it to the max rank in the game. There are a lot of players who have already done so in this first season of the game but don’t have much else to work towards until the next season.

The second season of the game is set to release in several weeks from now, so Infinity Ward may have it all worked out by then. It is possible to see the Modern Warfare max rank improvements then. Likely, in the form of icons or something else to reward max rank players for each season.
