Call of Duty Modern Warfare Battle Royale Leaks
Call of Duty Modern Warfare launched late last month on PS4, Xbox One, and PC to generally positive acclaim both from critics and fans. However, one issue with Modern Warfare was the lack of two very important modes to the franchise: zombies and battle royale.
Battle royale was brought to the Call of Duty universe last year with the release of Blackout in Black Ops 4. It was a popular mode that made the game worth purchasing just for it for many of the players. As such, it was expected that a similar mode would release for this year’s game.
Lo and behold, the Infinity Ward-developed game released in October 2019 with three main modes behind it but neither battle royale nor zombies were one of them. Fortunately for those who were wanting a battle royale mode, leaks are suggesting that a Call of Duty Modern Warfare battle royale mode is on the way.
Modern Warfare Battle Royale Mode Leaks
A known leaker in the community who has brought proven information up in the past has opened the floodgates on everything we need to know about the rumored battle royale mode. Reddit user Senescallo shared several leaks about the Call of Duty Modern Warfare battle royale mode in a post on the social media site.
The Reddit user gathered information from a recent data mine of the game’s files and shared it on the site. This data likely came from a recent patch for the game that was perhaps laying the groundwork for the mode that is to come. The info includes a ton of leaked details on the map, mode, and more.
It all starts with the disclaimer from the data miner that this info is subject to change, simply because the mode is unreleased at this time. The map itself seems to be a rather large one, complete with different terrains including a snowy area, which should be great for those looking for variety in locations.
Named Locations and Points of Interests on the Map
There are a grand total of 15 main zones on the map, which is roughly around the same number as other similar battle royale modes in games. You can find the full list of the 15 zones that are rumored to be part of the map below:
- Airfield
- Boneyard
- Dam
- Downtown
- Gulag
- Hospital
- Layover
- Lumber
- Overgrown
- Port
- Quarry
- Storage Town
- Supercenter
- Trainyard
- TV Station
What is interesting about these is that it paints a better picture of what the map will be like. Water should be a good portion of the game with a large dam and port on the map. At the same time, there are some fascinating-sounding locations like the boneyard, overgrown, and quarry.
Those locations give off some unique vibes, giving us hope that the map will offer different play styles for those who like going right into the fight, those who wish to use vehicles, and those who want to sneak around and get the drop on their unsuspecting opponents.
Beyond the 15 main named areas on the map, there are also a few points of interests that the Reddit user shared in the leaks from the Call of Duty Modern Warfare battle royale mode. There are only a few of these, leading us to believe that they are significant areas that just don’t have a name on the map.
There are six of these in total. You can find the full list of the points of interest below:
- Bank
- Fire Station
- Gas Station
- Gun Store
- Pharmacy
- Police Station
Those six locations all seem to be locations that can be found within the main areas but they could be their own separate areas. Regardless, several of them like the Gun Store and Pharmacy sound like places that players will want to visit if they are wanting to find some great loot.
From there, the user detailed the Call of Duty Modern Warfare battle royale mode itself. It has the simple objective of asking players to eliminate all other opponents to win. From what it seems, the name of the mode will simply be called battle royale and have no fancy name like Blackout.
In the public matches offered for the mode, there are some default settings that will be enabled. What is insane about this is that the default player count for the map will be 200. Yes, you read that right: 200 players in a single match of battle royale.
That is double the normal player count for other battle royale games like Activision’s own Blackout and even that of PUBG and Fortnite. This implies that the mode is going for a different sort of feel and will likely feature a much larger map than other games to accommodate for the added players.
There are three playlists that are rumored to be offered for the mode and they are the standard playlists that you would expect of solo, duos for two players to team up, and squads for four players to team up together. It is interesting that there isn’t a larger mode, too, since there will be so many players.
The endgame radar will be turned on for the mode, presumably, meaning that players will be able to see others on the radar in the endgame. Players will have the max health of 150 but the last stand health will be 100 while their revive health will be 30.
The last stand timer is fairly lengthy at 60 seconds while it will take around seven seconds for a player to be revived from the last stand. There seems to be some sort of friendly fire punishment so this could mean that the controversial setting will be enabled.
By default, the Gulag area will be set to on (more on that in a bit). There are additional options that players will be able to toggle on or off in the settings for creating private matches. These include the infiltration options, the starting weapons that a player has, damage of the circle, and more.
How Respawns Will Work
The leaks have revealed that the way respawns work in the Call of Duty Modern Warfare battle royale mode is quite different from what we’ve come to know in battle royale. There is an item called a respawn token that a player must pick up but the similarities end there.
Players will apparently need to drop off the body near an ambulance on the map along with the respawn token. Once this has happened, the dead player will enter a Gulag queue for a chance to come back. Gulag Prison Camp is a side mode that determines who comes back to life.
Players who have died in the match will be put into a one versus one duel to the death to see which of the two dead players will have another chance at life. Players who are currently in the Gulag queue to revive will be able to watch the two players currently fighting each other.
Dead players will even have the chance to place bets on who they think will win. There will also be jail breaks sometimes that will automatically put every dead person in the queue back into the game. Overall, this is a fantastic and interactive way of making respawns exciting.
To also keep things interesting, there will be some missions that players will be able to take on in the battle royale mode. There are several different mission types ranging from timed runs to eliminating a specific player in the match to collect in items and more.
The entire squad will be notified when a mission is offered to players and certain assassination missions will even offer bounties for taking out the player. Players will be able to mark various objects in the mode like vehicles, items, enemies, and dangerous areas.
There will be a jumpmaster in the mode who will select where the team lands. They will be able to select the landing spot before the match starts or relinquish the role. Anyone will be able to become the new jumpmaster and players are allowed to jump separately per usual.
In terms of loot items, there are five rarities that players will be able to find on the map. From the lowest rarity to the greatest, there are white, green, blue, purple, and gold items that can be looted. Players will have limited inventory space in the mode so they will need to keep it in check.
All weapons, attachments, equipment, field upgrades, and killstreaks will apparently be available in battle royale from multiplayer. There will also be a gas mask, vests, helmets, bandages, backpacks, a portable defibrillator, and more.
Players are not allowed to hold two of the same weapons in the game, which is contrary to the mobile version of the battle royale mode. There seem to be three levels of helmets and vests, reducing damage even more for each level and granting other boosts as well.
Perks and Plunder Detailed in the Leaks
Perks will be available in the battle royale mode, though, it wasn’t revealed whether or not the player will be able to select them before the match or only find them in loot. There are quite a lot of perks available, many of which players will recognize from the traditional multiplayer mode.
You can find the full list of available perks that were data mined for use in the battle royale mode below:
- High Alert
- Spotter
- Tracker
- Stalker
- Marksman
- Sleight of Hand
- Armored
- Artisan Tastes
- Deep Pockets
- Grenadier
- Healer
- Thief
- Ammo Scavenger
- Armor Scavenger
- Medic Scavenger
- Plunder Scavenger
- Bounty Hunter
- Ghost
- Sneaky
- Explosive Ordnance Disposal
Players will be able to use their killstreaks as well, activating various things like weapons and UAVs that can scan for nearby enemies. However, there are some interesting changes like juggernauts not being able to pick up any loot.
Plunder is a new form of items that players can collect and earn during their match. They are collected through completing some of the aforementioned missions in the match as well as just eliminating enemies. Players will have to take the plunder to certain box locations if they wish to use it.
Players will be able to convert the plunder into experience at ATM machines as well as purchase game-changing items at the plunder box locations. No details were given, unfortunately, on what these items might be like. The player who collects the most plunder in a match will be named the Best Plunderer at the end.
This does mean that winning the battle royale match doesn’t guarantee that you will get the most plunder if you aren’t doing other tasks like completing missions and the like. Players will need to have a minimum amount of plunder before they can convert it into experience at the ATM.
Players will be able to collect plunder from eliminated enemies to increase their amount but the dropped plunder will expire after sometime so players are encouraged to get it fast. If a player enters the bank to transfer plunder into experience, they will need to be extra careful.
Entering the bank will cause the bank alarm to go off, which will be quite loud and allow for enemy players nearby to hear it. This means that opponents may take this opportunity as a chance to take you out and steal your plunder before you are able to deposit it.
That same plunder currency will be available for the betting system in the Gulag Prison Camp that players fight in when they lose in a match and are respawned. Because of this, it does seem likely that the solo version of the mode will not feature Gulag, at least not in this way.
