Everything You Need to Know About the Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend Los Angeles
Activision is holding the latest event for the inaugural season of the CDL this weekend. Teams from the impressive slew of franchises in the Call of Duty League will converge in Los Angeles, California for what is possibly the most exciting event to date.
Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend Los Angeles Is This Weekend
The Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend Los Angeles will happen this weekend on Saturday and Sunday. Players from most of the teams in the league will compete to see who will come out on top in this third Home Series event, and fourth overall event in the season.
The Home Series Weekend Los Angeles follows up on the launch event that happened in late January, the first Home Series Weekend event in London, and the last one that happened a couple of weeks ago in Atlanta, Georgia. All of those events had a team that was hosting it.
In the case of the upcoming Home Series Weekend event in Los Angeles, this one is unique already for the fact that it will have two teams hosting the event rather than just one. This is because there are actually two teams that call the city of angels their home.
They are the Los Angeles Guerrillas and OpTic Gaming LA. Both teams are not doing so hot in the current standings of the first season of the league and have a lot to prove. In addition, there will be other juggernauts that will be participating in this event, too.
Which Teams Are Competing in the Event
In total, there will be eight teams that will be competing this upcoming weekend. That is less than the 12 total teams that are in the first season of the esports league. This is because the event will follow past ones and give four teams a break for the weekend while the others compete.
The four teams that will be sitting this one out are the Toronto Ultra, London Royal Ravens, Paris Legion, and current fan favorite Chicago Huntsmen. Despite the absence of some really amazing teams like the Huntsmen, it is shaping up to be a riveting event nonetheless.
On the other hand, here are the eight teams that fans can look forward to competing this weekend in Los Angeles.
- Atlanta FaZe
- Florida Mutineers
- Minnesota Rokkr
- Seattle Surge
- Dallas Empire
- New York Subliners
- Los Angeles Guerrillas
- OpTic Gaming LA
The event will be hosted by both the Guerrillas and OpTic, meaning that only one home team can truly do better than the other and come out on top. It begs the question of if either team will actually be able to defend their home field like FaZe did two weeks ago or if they will falter like the Royal Ravens.
How to Watch Home Series Weekend Los Angeles
With so much on the line this weekend in LA, it is understandable that anyone would want to tune in and see what happens. There are a couple of ways that you can watch the event live. If you are wanting to watch the Home Series Weekend Los Angeles in person, you can do that.
Tickets are on sale right now for the event live while supplies still last. Activision actually posted an update recently about the coronavirus situation that is happening around the world. Though the city of Los Angeles has declared an emergency, this shouldn’t affect the event as a whole.
It is still happening at the time of publishing this and tickets are still on sale if you want to view it live in person. Of course, the league is taking some measures to ensure that the event is as clean as possible. Equipment and areas will be cleaned before and after all use.
Bathrooms will be equipped with plenty of soap and hand sanitizer will be available throughout the venue in adequate supply. However, if you are feeling sick or unwell, it is recommended that you stay home for the safety of yourself and the other fans/players themselves who will be there.
This is especially unfortunate if you already purchased a ticket for the upcoming event but not all hope is lost. You can contact customer support for the Call of Duty League and it seems that you will be able to potentially get a refund more easily because of this whole situation.
If you do have to stay home, thankfully, there is still a way that you can watch the event live and this goes for those who are too far away from LA to see it in person, too. Like previous events, it will be streamed live on the official Call of Duty League YouTube channel.
If you happen to be busy during the times of the event, no worries as the on demand footage should be available on that same YouTube channel after the matches are over.
Both Hosts Are Making Necessary Changes
The Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend Los Angeles event will be an exciting one, not just for its unique host situation, but the fact that the hosting teams are making some necessary changes. Both OpTic and the Guerrillas are changing up their teams right before this weekend.
In the case of OpTic Gaming LA, they announced that the team will be shifting its roster around and moving its current assault rifle main player to an SMG role and then moving SlasheR to the assault rifle spot on the starting team. This is a significant change that could help the currently last place team.
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Guerrillas are making a much more radical change that will be interesting to see play out. It isn’t doing too hot either so a whopping three of the five starting players have been benched in favor of one substitute joining the main roster and two upcomers filling the other spots.
These are wildly different approaches to shaking up their teams, but both are equally important for the two Los Angeles-based teams. They are the co-hosts of this upcoming event and have been in a really bad place up until this point.
OpTic Gaming being in last place is an unfortunate situation, one that likely requires immense change to make up for. And the Guerrillas aren’t doing that much better, with only 10 points and one match win to their name plus the controversy of their Rokkr match still looming over them.
Event Schedule and How It Will Work
The schedule for the weekend begins this Saturday, March 7 at 12 pm PT. Fans will be able to tune in then and start watching the first match of the whole event. Saturday will be dedicated to the group stage like previous Home Series Weekend events where they are all divided into two groups.
Group A consists of Minnesota Rokkr, Seattle Surge, Los Angeles Guerrillas, and OpTic Gaming LA. At the same time, group B has Atlanta FaZe, Florida Mutineers, Dallas Empire, and New York Subliners. These are some interesting teams with some intriguing matchups set to happen.
Though they are group B, they will kick the weekend off on Saturday with the first match between FaZe and the Mutineers. This will be followed by the first group A match of Minnesota Rokkr versus Seattle Surge and then Dallas Empire against the Subliners after that.
The final match that we know of currently is the marquee match of the night at 5 pm PT with Los Angeles Guerrillas taking on OpTic Gaming LA. That’s right, the first match for both of them during the Home Series Weekend will be against one another to see which hosting team comes out on top.
Saturday will conclude with the top two teams from both groups moving on to the second day of the event. Day two will happen on Sunday, March 8 and have the tournament bracket where the top four teams will compete in a single-elimination competition to see who comes out as the first place winner of the event.
Current Standings Before Home Series Weekend LA
The current standings going into the Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend Los Angeles event are as follows, along with whether or not that team will be participating in this event and how many they have competed in, including the launch event that everyone was a part of.
- Chicago Huntsmen: Not competing in LA. Has done three events thus far
- Atlanta FaZe: Competing in LA. Done two events
- Paris Legion: Not competing. Done three events
- Minnesota Rokkr: Competing. Two events
- Florida Mutineers: Competing. Two events
- London Royal Ravens: Not competing. Three events
- Dallas Empire: Competing. Two events
- Los Angeles Guerrillas: Competing and hosting. Two events
- Seattle Surge: Competing. Two events
- New York Subliners: Competing. Two events
- Toronto Ultra: Not competing. Three events

Atlanta FaZe is also the only undefeated team left in the league at this time, due to the Huntsmen’s surprising loss in Atlanta. It will be interesting to see how this upcoming tournament shapes up with them participating in it as well, along with some of the more endangered teams.
Our Predictions for Home Series Weekend LA
In doing our predictions for the Home Series Weekend that is coming up, we have to be honest and say this is likely going to be the most unexpected tournament thus far. There are too many teams that are close to one another in standings currently and haven’t had the chance to prove themselves.
Then there is the fact that both LA teams will be going into this tournament with renewed strength, the home field advantage, and changes that could make a significant difference for them. Regardless of all of this, we are going to give you our predictions for what we think will happen this weekend.
We are going to start with the matches that we know about at this time. The first match is Atlanta FaZe against the Florida Mutineers. Though the Mutineers are a solid team so far in the game with their amazing win against Chicago, we do think that they will not be able to withstand the overwhelming talent that FaZe has.
In the first group A match with Minnesota Rokkr versus the Seattle Surge, this is one match that could go either way in our opinion. Even still, we do think that Rokkr will prove itself as one of the top teams here and defeat the Surge.
This will be followed by the Dallas Empire versus New York Subliners. Empire is a strong team that hasn’t been able to really show its skill in the league thus far and, as such, we do predict that they will overcome the Subliners in the second match of group B.
The hottest match of the night, though, is going to be Los Angeles Guerrillas versus OpTic Gaming LA. Up until this point, the two hosting teams have never played against one another. With the changes to each of them and their home field advantage, this is likely to be the wildest match in the event.
Though this is hard to predict at this time, we do believe that Los Angeles Guerrillas will be able to overcome its co-host and beat them in an upsetting win. This is solely because the changes that Guerrillas made are far more substantial and beneficial to the team getting better.
From there, we believe the two teams to move on from group B to be Atlanta FaZe (no surprise there) in first place and Dallas Empire in second place. But for group A, you will see Minnesota Rokkr win the group with Los Angeles Guerrillas in second place.
In the tournament format, we predict FaZe will face off against Guerrillas and, unfortunately, defeat the home team. Minnesota Rokkr will face off against Dallas Empire and we think that Dallas Empire will take them out in a surprising win.
This will end with a finals match of Atlanta FaZe against Dallas Empire where FaZe will successfully win another event and keep its undefeated streak going. For now, we will have to wait and see how the Call of Duty League Home Series Weekend in Los Angeles turns out.
