The Call of Duty League 2022 season is approaching and that means time for some new competitions between the very best pros in the business. Also a key part of the season is the Challengers division, and Activision has revealed the first Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season details.

Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 Season Expands to LATAM

While the pros and 12 teams (hopefully, 12 teams again in this new season) compete as the main event in the CDL, there is also the Challengers division that is just as important for the future of the esports scene. This is where the semi-pros, former pros, and amateurs all have a chance to shine.

It is such an open playground where anyone and everyone who wants a chance to be part of the competitive scene in Call of Duty and rise up and have a chance to win it all. In fact, the Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season will get started before even the CDL begins.

Though it is the 2022 season, it will actually kick-off before the end of this year and offer the first set of official competitions for Call of Duty Vanguard since the launch of the game. With the start of the season for the Challengers beginning in just a few short weeks, there are some announcements and rules that have been announced.

By far, the most important update for the Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season is the fact that it is being expanded to include a new region, in addition to the ones that we have had before. In the previous couple of seasons of Challengers since the start of the CDL in 2020, we only had North America and Europe.

Now we have Central and South America joining the mix, too, creating the third region that is the Latin American area. This will encompass the rest of Central and South America that was not previously included in the Challengers division, opening the doors for new talented players and teams to shine.

The new Latin American region will be completely separate from the North America and Europe ones, offering their own online competitions, prizes, and chances for new talent to rise through the ranks and, hopefully, get noticed for the big leagues.

Challengers Season Format

The Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season format has also been revealed and it is largely similar to what has happened in the past couple of years. For one, the Scouting Series will return for the upcoming season, however, the dates and where to watch have not been revealed yet.

The Scouting Series is really important as it is the chance for rookies and hopefuls out there to get seen by the 12 teams in the big leagues, giving them the chance to be scouted and signed by a team. It worked in the past for phenomenal players like Standy and there are likely many other talented people waiting to be scouted in the Challengers division.

Other than that, the main events that will be in the Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season are the Ladders, Cups, Opens, and Challengers Elite. When it comes to the Ladders, this is something that is starting on November 29, giving the Challengers players the chance to earn their first set of points.

After the Ladders, there are the Cups, which are the main tournaments that are offered throughout the year and very often. These are completely open tournaments with upwards of 1000 teams and more, allowing literally anyone to get in there and start making a name for themselves.

There are also the Opens, but we do not know much about how these will work in the upcoming season at this time. After that, there is the exciting Challengers Elite where the best and most notable teams in the division will compete.

Unfortunately, it is only happening in North America and Europe in the new season, including the eight best teams from each location. The Playoffs event has been revamped, too, only allowing the top eight teams to compete while the bottom four must requalify for the next one.

And last but not least, there is the Challengers Finals. This is the culmination of the 2022 season and will feature the very best teams in the amateur business taking one another on to find out who will be crowned the best in the division and have a chance of catching the eye of the larger teams in the CDL.

What is great about the Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season is that it begins very soon. The very first event will begin in early December, right after the launch of the first season connecting Warzone Pacific and Vanguard, on the weekend of Saturday, December 4, 2021.

There are around 1024 teams that can openly register and compete in this event, and the registration is available right now. If you are interested in getting together a team of four players and possibly making a name for yourself in the North America, Europe, or the newly announced Latin American regions, this is the time to do it.

With the reveal of the first Call of Duty League Challengers Cup event in early December, this also reveals the new countries that are eligible for competing in the event. What is not changing is the North America region, which will continue to host players from US, Canada (excluding Quebec), Mexico, Puerto Rico, and Jamaica.

With the new Latin American region, it opens up the Challengers division to new places, including Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, French Guiana, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Uruguay, and Venezuela.

How the first Challengers Cup for Vanguard will work is that the up to 1024 teams in the open event will compete in a single elimination tournament until there are only eight teams left in the event. Then it will switch to a double-elimination bracket for the final eight teams to determine the winner of the overall Cup, making it a grueling gauntlet of matches to try and reach the top.

With the reveal of the Latin American region in the Call of Duty League Challengers 2022 season, this is the only region now not to have a CDL team from it. Here’s hoping that we get a Brazil team or another location in the 2023 season when the Call of Duty League, hopefully, opens up. Alternatively, it would be nice to see a Latin American team pop up right now in the 2022 season as the still empty 12th spot in the league.
