Blast Pro Series: Copenhagen, S1mple Re-Signs with Na’Vi, More – CS:GO Recap 11/04/2019
Welcome back to another exciting day of CS:GO news! Today, we’ve got a recap of the Blast Pro Series: Copenhagen tournament, confirmation that S1mple is re-signing with Na’Vi, and a look at the astronomical price-tag 100 Thieves paid to buy Renegades’ team.
As always, we’ve got a lot to cover today, so let’s dive on in.
Blast Pro Series: Copenhagen Recap
The Blast Pro Series returned this past weekend with a tournament in the Danish capital city of Copenhagen, and boy, what an exciting tournament it was.
Tournament favorites Team Liquid and Astralis failed to advance out of the event’s group stage going 2-0-3 and 2-1-2, respectively.
Astralis did, however, get to play in the Pro Standoff show match against Na’Vi afterward, taking the match 30-26 and earning themselves an extra $20,000.
The big talk of the tournament, however, was that FaZe Clan finally broke out of its recent slump. They took the trophy after taking out an also surprisingly strong looking NiP in the Grand Final.
The team only dropped a single map the entire tournament and finally seemed to have come online following the addition of Coldzera in late September.
On the other side of the table, we saw Cloud9 floundering following continued changes to their line-up in which TenZ was benched for Subroza.
The team only managed an embarrassing 0-1-4 scoreline in the entire tournament and went -37 in the round differential.
All five players on the team were the lowest-rated at the event. Rumors quickly sprung up that Mixwell would possibly leave the team depending on the result, though he quickly shut those rumors down.
Hopefully, we’ll see this team find its form soon, but the situation is getting direr by the day.
This tournament also set a new record for tournament wins as Olofmeister now holds the most trophies in his case at 25, surpassing Xizt and his 24 trophies.
S1mple Re-Signs with Na’Vi
Speaking of teams at Copenhagen, we got the confirmation by Dekay that S1mple has now re-signed with Na’Vi for the 2020 season.
The team has struggled massively since winning StarSeries Season 7 in April. Many had expected S1mple to finally move-on from this floundering project after his contract has expired.
It looks like he’s giving the squad another chance. You have to wonder if he’ll still want to stick around should they fail to make a big splash next year.
Costly Sum Paid by 100 Thieves
Our last stop of the day takes us down under to Australia, where NeL has been reporting of rumors on the price 100 Thieves paid for Renegade’s CS roster.
According to NeL, the buyout for Renegades was reported to be $2.2 million, an eye-watering sum for a team that sits in the top 10 currently.
This price, however, was only if the team’s contracts had yet to expire. Given the rumors, those contracts were close to expiring after the Berlin Major. They may have well gotten this squad for almost nothing, though the likelihood seems doubtful.
We’ll continue to keep you all updated if we hear any more about the price 100 Thieves paid.
That’s all we have for today, thanks for reading. We’ll be back tomorrow to bring you more exciting CS:GO news, so stay tuned!
