Black Ops Cold War Season 2 Update Makes Game Unplayable for Some Players
The Season 2 update for Call of Duty Black Ops Cold War is now upon us, and players can download it right now. Though the season hasn’t started yet at the time of writing this, the patch is available. However, it is potentially problematic, giving a possible Black Ops Cold War Season 2 repurchase error.
Black Ops Cold War Season 2 Repurchase Error Has Appeared
Some players are reportedly encountering a Black Ops Cold War Season 2 repurchase error after downloading and installing the most recent patch for the title on at least one platform. This problem seems to be not too widespread but common enough to get several reports from the community.
One such report comes from the Reddit user eortiz13, who posted about it on the Cold War subreddit page. The user noted in the post title that they had encountered this Black Ops Cold War Season 2 repurchase error that stopped them from playing the game.
The Reddit user stated that they just updated their game and are now encountering a screen asking them to repurchase the game that they already clearly own on that platform. Worse still, when trying to repurchase Cold War that they already own, it even tells them as such.
They can’t even open up the main menu for the game or anything else and are encountering this Black Ops Cold War Season 2 repurchase error every single time that they try to open the game back up right now. This is a massive issue for them as it is essentially game-breaking.
What the Reddit User Is Encountering
The user posted a screenshot of the issue they are dealing with and then asked the community if anyone else is experiencing this same game-breaking bug. In the screenshot, we can see a store page that shows the game is asking them to purchase it once more.
It gives a general overview of the game itself, noting the various game modes available, like the singleplayer story campaign, the online multiplayer, and Zombies mode. Also, there are 13 playable operator characters that the player has access to when they purchase.
While this is all nice, good, and informative, it is completely pointless to show this for someone who already has the game. And the fact that the player is unable to get the game to recognize that they already own it is even more frustrating since it means they can’t play it right now.
Interestingly enough, the comments are filled with several different players who encounter the same game-breaking bug at this time. It also seems that most of the bugs are happening on the Xbox platform, rather than PC or PlayStation.
Contact Support If You Get This Bug
However, that doesn’t necessarily mean that there won’t be cases of this happening on the other platforms, so players on PS4, PS5, and PC should be aware of that. But in all honesty, this is something that we have seen happen before, both for Cold War and its predecessor Modern Warfare.
It isn’t super common but common enough that we have had to deal with this in the past where an update will make the game seem like the player doesn’t own it or certain parts of it that make it work. As such, we do have some tips for how to fix this particular issue.
Our first and most important recommendation for fixing this problem is to contact both Activision support and Microsoft support. Though it is likely not Microsoft’s problem, it might be given that we are getting reports of this happening on Xbox.
Simultaneously, though, it is most likely something that Activision/Treyarch needs to be working on immediately. But other than that, some fixes might work for you in the meantime. We do recommend checking to make sure you have everything downloaded for the game.
Other Possible Fixes for This Repurchase Error
All of the DLC and different parts of Cold War need to be downloaded to make sure that it is working. You likely do have everything already, but it is worth checking. If you do have everything, your next best bet is to delete the game entirely and redownload the whole thing repeatedly from the store.
This is an annoying fix as it means that you will have to use up your precious internet data to download this massive game all over again. We understand how problematic it can be for some users to understand if this is not something that you would like to do right now.
In that case, your best bet is to hang tight and wait for a hotfix for this particular issue. Contacting support is important for this, so they know how many players are affected by this and can, hopefully, get a fix for it released soon.
This is especially sucky as it happens to be the Black Ops Cold War Season 2 update. This second season is jam-packed with new content from the massive new Zombies Outbreak game mode to the four new multiplayer maps to new weapons, game modes, and so much more.
It is all getting started Thursday, Feb. 25. We imagine that many players will want to be able to get in on the action as soon as it drops, so here’s hoping that a fix for this is pushed out sooner rather than later so you can enjoy everything that Season 2 has to offer.
