Black Ops Cold War Not Downloading on PS5 for Some Users
The launch of the next-generation consoles are here. Disregarding the lack of supply to meet the demands for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S for a moment, there is no doubt that next-gen is here and ready to go. Well, that is if you don’t encounter some newfound Black Ops Cold War PS5 download issues.
PlayStation 5 Has Some Issues at Launch
As we all expected, console problems will be an issue when a new system or generation begins; this is a certainty. There are just too many people who now have shiny new systems to play on. It is too wide of a population of players to account for every single problem ahead of time.
That said, there is one issue plaguing users across the board when it comes to the PlayStation 5, specifically. One of the biggest issues with this new console currently is that many players are having problems when it comes to downloading games on the new hardware.
Sure, some games like Bugsnax and others have been pretty easy to pick up for free through PlayStation and then download it, but some games are becoming problemsome. The one common theme seems to be that they are only PS5 games except some like Bugsnax that we haven’t heard too many issues with at this time.
That said, there is one game that seems to reign above all the other PS5 games to date for having the most issues, and that is the latest Call of Duty game: Black Ops Cold War that was released today. The Black Ops Cold War PS5 download issues are pretty widespread and causing significant problems.
Black Ops Cold War Being Stuck in Queue
The gist of it is that the player can purchase it from the PlayStation Store or redeem their code and have it usually show up in their purchased games, which isn’t the main problem (more on this in a bit). The Black Ops Cold War PS5 download issues pop up when the player tries to download the game from there.
Once you download the PS5 version of the game onto your system, you will likely run into one of two Black Ops Cold War PS5 download issues that players have been dealing with since the game came out last night/today, Friday, Nov. 13.
The first problem that you might encounter is that the game will say it is starting to download but then reveal that it is queued for download, and nothing is happening. The game could be the only thing you have on your download list. It just won’t download no matter what you do.
It has nothing to do with your internet connection, nor does it have to do with even the servers on PlayStation’s side. I’m going to stop for a moment and give you some possible tips for this particular problem. Though no fix has been given for this specific download issue, I also encountered it.
We Encountered a Similar Issue
After opening up my shiny new console yesterday, I went to download dozens of games. Each one worked out well, or so I thought. When I went to play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, I noticed that it was the PS4 version of the game and not the new PS5 version I was hoping for.
So, I went into my library, found the PS5 version, and started to download it. Unfortunately, this is where I encountered the queued for download bug for that game. The only things I was trying to download were the game and one of its DLC packs.
No matter what I did to the game to try and pause it and restart it, the game wouldn’t download at all. However, I did end up getting the PS5 version (which is excellent, by the way) through having the PS5 download the DLC pack first. Then, suddenly, it was able to work, and now I can play the game.
In the case of Black Ops Cold War, though, this is a bit more complicated since there aren’t any traditional DLC packs to download at this time. But the PS5 version is divided into separate downloads, so you could try and see if it will work that way.
Black Ops Cold War Will Also Get a Download Error
But that is only one of the major Black Ops Cold War PS5 download issues that players are having right now. The other one is that you will get an error when trying to download the game. When you go to the download list to see what went wrong, the game is not showing up there at all.
This can also happen for the queued for download bug as well, where the game doesn’t show up in the list. Players have tried to go to their collection of purchased games. It will show that you own the game, but there is no way to download it because going to the PlayStation Store will show you don’t own it there.
Cold War and other games affected by this are just stuck in limbo, where you can’t download it for now. Neither Activision nor PlayStation have commented but, given that there are other games affected by this, it sounds like a Sony problem to fix.
Other affected games include Spider-Man Remastered, Sackboy, the Disney+ app, and more. Since no fix has been issued just yet, there is little that you can do about this problem, but here is what we know at this time. Some users have found a way to get around this.
What You Could Do About These Issues
The solution they found is that they factory reset their console, and it downloaded, but that means downloading everything all over again, so we do not recommend this. Plus, I have run into an issue where Miles Morales will not upload my save to the cloud, so if I were to do this, I would have to restart the game entirely.
I also redeemed a code for Black Ops Cold War and ran into issues. When installing the game, it lets me select which part of the game (multiplayer, Zombies, etc.) to download first to play it immediately (likely divided due to the massive size). The problem is that no matter which I picked, the game would give me an error.
After trying all three options several times, I gave up and found that the game was downloading everything anyway. At the time of writing this, the game is still downloading all parts and showing them, so it looks good. But if you run into this, we recommend downloading the PS4 version on your PS5 and playing that while a fix comes.
