Black Ops 4 Grand Heist Has Arrived!
Treyarch has officially released the Operation Grand Heist (OGH) event on PS4, and it gives players access to a bunch of cool new content. First, there’s a new specialist, known as the Outrider, who wields a deadly crossbow that fires explosive arrows. Then there’s a bunch of new weapons: The Switchblade X9 submachine gun, Rampage shotgun, and a melee weapon called Cha-Ching!
If you own the Black Ops 4 battle pass, you’ll also be able to experience two new multiplayer maps — Lockup and Casino. And don’t worry Zombies and Blackout players, there’s a lot of new content for your favorite game modes as well.
The Zombies playlist has received a new Gauntlet (plus a neat new perk too). The Blackout map has been improved, and there’s a new Western-themed location known as Ghost Town. And Treyarch has finally addressed a popular request from Blackout players — Blackout now has its own prestige system!
There’s a lot to get into, so now let’s take a closer look at all the Operation Grand Heist content.
*PS4 receives all content updates a week before Xbox One and PC
Multiplayer Updates
New Specialist
Outrider
- Special Issue Weapon: Sparrow
- Crossbow that fires explosive-tipped arrows.
- Special Issue Equipment: Hawk
- Pilotable drone that can be used to get vision of the enemy team. It will automatically tag any enemies in its view.
Outrider is a new addition to Black Ops 4, but she is actually a returning fan-favorite specialist from Black Ops 3. This specialist will provide very useful intel to her team with the Hawk drone, and she can also deal a lot of damage with her Sparrow Crossbow.
Outrider can control the Hawk drone (like an RC-XD car) and use it to find enemies. Any enemy that the drone sees will get tagged with an outlined red box. If an enemy is tagged, you can easily track their movement — for example, you can see a marked enemy through a wall.
But just remember, the Hawk only grants Outrider vision, not her team. So, make sure to tell your teammates what you see.
Her Specialist Weapon Sparrow shoots arrows that explode after a few seconds. Since there is a detonation time, you can get tactical with the arrows. For example, fire one at a popular choke point, then laugh while enemies sprint into your arrow trap.
There’s also a scope on the Sparrow, plus the arrows can travel quite a long distance before dropping, so it’s an effective ranged weapon as well.
New Weapons
Switchblade X9
- Attachments: Quickdraw I, quickdraw II, rapid fire I, rapid fire II, stabilizer, stock, hybrid mags, grip, FMJ, and laser sight.
- Unlocked when you reach tier 100 of the OGH Contraband Stream.
The Switchblade X9 is similar to the Spitfire.
This weapon has an extremely fast rate of fire, and it does moderate damage. Also, the range isn’t great due to some noticeable recoil, so stick to close-range combat with this submachine gun.
I would recommend using hybrid mags since the default Switchblade magazine only holds 26 bullets. Also, definitely slap on quickdraw I and II to maximize your ADS speed.
Rampage
- Attachments: Stock I, stock II, quickdraw I, quickdraw II, grip I, grip II, hybrid mags, and max load.
- Unlocked when you reach tier 50 of the OGH Contraband Stream.
The Rampage is a fully automatic shotgun. Just like the Switchblade X9, this weapon will quickly eliminate close-range targets.
It’s quite accurate from the hip, so don’t even bother using quickdraw on this. Sprint toward an enemy, hold down the trigger, strafe side to side, and you will easily get a kill.
Cha-Ching!
- Unlocked when you reach tier 25 of the OGH Contraband Stream.
This large sack of coins is a deadly melee weapon. Smack an enemy once with this, and they’re done.
New Maps
*Must have Black Ops 4 Season Pass to play these maps
Lock Up
This map brings the fight to a Los Angeles police station. There’s a lot of narrow walkways outside, and the actual police station has many cluttered rooms.
Get ready for a lot of close quarters combat.
Casino
Time to gamble on your gun skill in this casino map. The inside of the casino is filled with slot machines, and it features numerous hallways.
Just like the other new map, expect to see mostly submachine guns and shotguns used here.
Blackout Updates
New Characters
- Unlock tier 1 of the OGH Contraband Stream to get Outrider.
- Black Ops 4 Season Pass owners get access to the Cosmic Silverback character.
New Destination
Ghost Town
This new location in Blackout is made up of two older fan-favorite maps. The actual town area is inspired by “Standoff,” which is a multiplayer map from Black Ops II. And the bottom half of Ghost Town is based off the underground Zombies map known as “Buried” (from Black Ops II as well).
Treyarch wants players to check out this new Western-themed area, so if you drop there, expect to find a lot of rare loot.
New Prestige System
- Blackout players can now prestige up to 10 times. Max out your level to hit Prestige Master.
- Exclusive Blackout unlockable rewards: Prestige icons, Calling Cards, Victory Coins, and Echelon Characters.
Yeah, that’s right, Blackout now has its own unique Prestige system (goodbye, level 81!).
The more kills and wins you get, the faster you’ll level up.
You can look at the new Prestige icons below:
Zombies Updates
New Gauntlet
Death-Con Five
- Takes place on the DLC map Classified.
- Uses standard Gauntlet rules.
There’s a lot of fun and interesting challenges included in this Gauntlet.
The round 18 challenge called “Shock and Awe” stood out to me. You need to get 55 trap kills (and survive) before the 5:55 timer hits zero. Good luck with that!
New Perk
Ethereal Razor
- Increases your health gain and melee attack damage.
Feel free to punch a zombie if you have this perk.
The 100-tier Operation Grand Heist Contraband Stream also features a bunch of new skins for older weapons, Specialist outfits, emotes, and calling card emblems.
Just play a lot of Black Ops 4 while this event is live to unlock these neat rewards.
Please be sure to check out Treyarch’s official Operation Grand Heist blog, and the official patch notes to get more details about all the changes.
