bbq Olivers Release Malice After Accusations Withdrawn
Yesterday we reported that former bbq Olivers’ player Malice had brought forth accusations that the org was abusing its players and staff, a claim that was followed up by bbq threatening to sue Malice.
Just a short day later, it appears the situation may already be over as a report from Naver indicates that Malice has already gone to bbq’s headquarters, apologized for the allegations, and was released from the team, while bbq dropped the lawsuit against him.
The move provides a controversial ending to this short drama, though many have questioned the authenticity of the apology.
Considering his controversial history in Korea, the community believes Malice could have made up the allegations. Many in other regions pointed out he has been struggling with money lately and may have apologized to avoid a lengthy and costly legal battle.
Going to court may not have been a wise idea whether or not he had the funds. However, bbq Olivers claims that Malice is twisting what happened. He was initially kicked out of the house but was allowed back in to stay since he was a foreigner with nowhere else to go. He was captured on CCTV footage entering the house after midnight.
Probably for the Best – Personal Take
Given bbq’s statement, and neither LS or any of his teammates coming forward verifying his claims, the accusations feel like Malice was trying to take advantage of the Griffin situation to boost his hand in negotiating with bbq and had overly exaggerated and twisted events to push his narrative.
The threat of the lawsuit may have made him realize his bluff had been called, and given his financial situation, that he’d lose out in a pointless case.
Then again, he could be telling the truth, but public opinion, at least in Korea, is not on his side.
In the end, though, he got what he wanted: off the team to pursue other opportunities, and while the case is resolved with bbq, this could be the last Korean team we see him play for.
We’ll continue to keep you all updated as we wait for an official statement from Malice.
