Backlash as Overwatch Streamer Samito Tells Viewer to “Kill Themselves”
Samito, a popular member of the Overwatch community told a viewer to “kill themselves” after a loss during a stream. The so-called “world’s angriest gamer” went far overboard in this instance, that’s for sure. Trash talk is one thing, but berating, harassing, and telling a viewer to do something like this is uncalled for. This went down on a recent stream (May 26th), and it was pretty uncomfortable to have to listen to. Perhaps the most confusing thing is that Samito is such a toxic part of the community is that he is a part of Florida Mayhem as a streamer. This Overwatch stream from Samito was just uncomfortable to watch.
After losing a match, Samito went off on one of the viewers of his stream, and it was pretty brutal. One could argue that it’s a gimmick, a way to put himself over on the internet as an “angry streamer”. More than one content creator has been inspired by James “Angry Video Game Nerd” Rolfe after all. The difference is that Rofle doesn’t abuse his fans or the people that made him famous. After a rant, Samito said he wasn’t going to get mad as the Overwatch stream went on.
Then he went off on the person in question. Telling them to shut the f**k up, telling them they’re never going to amount to anything, Samito just went on and on. There’s no excuse for this, even if a viewer said something mean. It’s very easy to just ban or mute someone without going off. For nearly a minute, Samito just ranted and screamed obscenities:
“How about you go swan dive onto a f***ing set of LEGO you little bi***,” he continued, exploding at this one viewer for half a minute without letting up. “No one cares what you have to f***ing say, shut the f*** up. How about you take your little bi*** a** that no one on this planet gives a f*** about, and get the f*** out of here. You wouldn’t say that sh** at LAN because I’d beat the f*** out of you. Get the f*** out of my stream. Never come back. No one loves you. Kill yourself.”
This is not a moment the Overwatch community back up, with people on Reddit calling him out as the most toxic part of the community. It doesn’t sound like this is the first time Samito has torn into someone during an Overwatch stream either. According to LampsAmps on Reddit, it seems every time they tried to watch his stream, he’s “talking trash about players in the game, lower ranked players,” and it’s a shame because this Redditor is a Florida Mayhem fan. Samito’s been with the org for about a year now as a content creator, but he continues to rant and insult people for no reason whatsoever.
Samito has not addressed this and instead seems to act like nothing out of the ordinary happened. This isn’t the first time a larger streamer told someone to kill themselves, but it in no way makes it right. There are always people that care about you, no matter what you’re going through. He did apparently make the clip private, but you can watch it here if you’re of the mind to. He reportedly made an attempt at an apology after the incident, but it doesn’t sound like it was heartfelt. Not given how frequently Samito lambastes other players in Overwatch on stream.
A quick apology after telling someone to kill themselves doesn’t make it right, nor does it make it okay. That’s not the kind of remark you should be throwing around “off the cuff” when you’re mad. That’s similar to someone throwing a racial slur in a stream, and then claiming “that’s not me.” Things like this said in a moment of anger are not done randomly. Hopefully, something like this doesn’t happen again. It’s not a good look to represent a major Overwatch org with that level of toxicity and anger.
