Astralis Ping Pong with IEM Beijing Trophy, Chaos Esports Picks Up Team, More – CSGO Recap 11/12/2019
Welcome back to another exciting day of CSGO news! Today we’ve got a look at Astralis using their IEM Beijing trophy for pong, Chaos Esports picking up Bens Anime Team, Dignitas still looking for a CSGO roster and more.
As always, we’ve got a lot to cover today, so let’s dive on in.
Astralis Trophy Pong
After winning IEM Beijing this past weekend, Astralis seemed keen on having a bit of fun with their new giant shield-like trophy.
In a video posted to social forum Reddit, two members of the team can be seen playing ping pong with their new trophy while the rest of their teammates sit on watching.
Given the team’s history with breaking trophies, there was some concern as to whether the same would happen here, but it appears that the trophy has made it through this ordeal in one piece.
The move may come as a shock to many unfamiliar with traditional sports, but messing around with your championship trophy is quite the common practice.
The Stanley Cup in hockey famously gets partied around with and often dented or banged up in some way, while World Cup soccer players have taken the trophy to wild parties after winning the prestigious event.
It’s nice to see we’re reaching a similar point in esports, though again you have to be careful given Astralis’ history with breaking them.
Chaos Esports Picks Up New Team
While Astralis was busy playing pong with their trophy, teams in North America have been making moves ahead of DreamHack Atlanta. Chaos Esports has now picked up Bens Anime Team ahead of the tournament, re-entering the CSGO scene after a two-month hiatus.
The roster, which is to replace Cloud9 at DreamHack after the team backed out, has the potential to make some noise in Atlanta with Steel, Wippie, Cam and the rest of the squad and could be a dark horse to win the whole thing going in.
We’ll have to keep an eye out on their performance this weekend, but hopes are riding high with this roster.
Dignitas Still Searching and Zonic Releases a Book
Our last stop of the day takes us over to Dignitas, which just yesterday reportedly signed Huni to a $2.3 million deal.
The move shocked many given that Renegade’s CSGO roster only reportedly sold for $2.2 million, and concern sparked as to whether the org was still looking to get into the scene if they’re willing to spend that much on a single player.
There haven’t been many rumors of anyone going over to the org recently, so perhaps they’ve toned back their focus on CS in favor of bolstering their new League of Legends roster, but only time will tell.
The last thing to note, Zonic is releasing a book today on his life, and according to reports includes a bit of backstabbing of someone in it.
It could be an exciting read. We’ll be waiting for an English copy of it.
That’s all we have for today, thanks for reading. We’ll be back tomorrow to bring you more exciting CSGO news, so stay tuned!
