Apex Legends Update 3.1 Patch Notes: Duos, Firing Range, More

by in Apex Legends | Nov, 6th 2019

Respawn Entertainment is not letting the momentum die for Apex Legends as players can look forward to the latest update for the game right now in the form of the Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes. The update is a surprisingly large one, all things considered for the battle royale game.

This week marked the end of the Fright or Fight limited-time event as part of the Halloween season. This exciting event was one of the best seasonal events for the game this year, and it was able to bring back a lot of players who had stopped playing.

However, the end of it isn’t meant to be a sad moment as players now have some new gameplay options available to them. These somewhat big Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes detail all the new changes and additions that are coming to the game on all three platforms around the world.

Right now, players can download and update their game to experience all the changes, including a new and improved firing range in the game for you to train at and a new mode to queue up into. Without further ado, let’s look at everything that this update offers.

Apex Legends Update 3.1: New Firing Range and Duos Mode

The Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes kick off with the two major additions to the game that you can start enjoying right now. The first of these is the new gameplay mode. Players are finally able to try out duos mode in this popular battle royale game.

A tried and true mode that is beloved in other online games like this one, duos is a mode that features teams of two players each taking on other teams of two until there is only one team left standing on the map. Now this popular mode is available for players to use in Apex Legends for the first time.

It’s about time, too, since duos is a fan favorite for players in other battle royale games. It is a popular mode that is used for testing out how powerful and talented a player is as there are a lot of pro players and streamers who frequent the mode in other similar games.

It is likely that this will become the same case for the duos mode implemented in the Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes. Unfortunately, not all is sunshine and rainbows when it comes to this long-awaited duos mode.

For one, this is a limited-time mode only. Like the solo mode before it, duos is only available for a short time. We still don’t understand why developer Respawn Entertainment continues to have staple modes in other games only show up temporarily but, alas, this is the situation once more.

The duos limited-time mode is available now until November 19. It will only be around for those two weeks, so players are encouraged to take advantage of the limited-time mode while they still have the chance to because it won’t be around for too long.

Hopefully, if more players turn out for the event and check it out, this will encourage Respawn Entertainment to make the duos mode a permanent addition to the game soon along with the previously released solo limited-time mode.

At this time, the traditional trios mode is the only mode that the game offers outside of ranked, which functions the same way essentially. Fortunately, there is a new and permanent addition to the game in the form of the firing range that is now available as well.

The firing range is a revamped version of the tutorial that all players experience when they first boot up the game and log in. Unfortunately, that training mode was only available to teach players how to play and wasn’t available whenever you wanted until now.

From the lobby, players can select the firing range. Here, you can practice playing around with all of the weapons, items, and even legends that are available in the game. This is impressive since you can practice here to your heart’s content.

The best part is that all of this is available to players for free. This includes all the legends that you would generally have to pay currency or real-world money to unlock in the main game. Here in the firing range, you will be able to test out the legends before you decide to purchase them.

This is great for allowing players the opportunity to test out and make a well-informed decision before spending their hard-earned money on a new playable character that they might not like in the end. It gives you the chance to see how they play and what their abilities are like.

You are also able to use each of the weapons and items in the game, which is great for testing out new weapons and getting used to new changes for weapons in the future. You can visit as much as you want so there is no real limit to how often you practice here.

There are a few notable features of the new firing range, including the ability to enter it alone as you would expect but also the opportunity to bring along your squad as well. This is great for seeing how your legend meshes with theirs and so on.

You can change your legend to any of the available ones in the game currently and use their abilities and ultimates as much as you want to get a real feel for them. All the possible loot items are also available including the weapons as we already mentioned plus the attachments, hopups, and more.

There are target dummies there at the firing range that you can use those weapons and abilities to see how they work in real combat. Finally, there are some more improvements on the way in the future and Respawn wants players to provide feedback about what they want from the new firing range.

Apex Legends Update 3.1: Weapon and Other Changes

As with any normal update as you would expect, there are some major changes to be found in the Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes. The first of these has to do with the Wingman weapon in the game. This popular but controversial weapon is getting a bit of a debuff in this update.

It is a minor one, though, as the headshot multiplier for damage has been reduced ever so slightly from 2.15 to 2.1. This does mean that the headshots will do a bit less damage than before, but the amount won’t be a whole lot overall. Still, this is worth noting if you happen to be someone who uses it a lot.

Then some weapons have been adjusted to have more width to their projectile so that they are easier to hit other players. All shotguns in the game will benefit from this, making it a bit easier to hit other players with the bullets they shoot.

Then the L-Star weapon will also have increased width to enjoy this benefit as well. Last but not least, the three sniper rifles: The Longbow DMR, Kraber, and G7 Scout will also enjoy the benefits of the increased projectile width. Beyond the weapon changes, there are some quality of life improvements as well.

The Apex Legends update 3.1 patch notes detail that there are some changes to how daily challenges will work in the game from now on to ensure that players are on an even playing field and have an equal chance to complete similar challenges each day.

From now on, every player will receive an easy, medium, and hard challenge to complete for that day. This is guaranteed and will ensure that you know what to expect in the game each day. You also have the chance to have more choice in what challenges you get as well.

For instance, if you don’t like a challenge because it might be for a hero that you don’t usually use, you can reroll it for a different one. Your first reroll for that day will cost you 200 legend tokens while the second one will cost you 500 legend tokens and the third one will be 1000 legend tokens.

Any reroll that you get beyond the third one will be capped at the 1000 legend tokens cost. Also, the cost resets every day so that you don’t have to keep spending 1000 tokens every day after your third reroll.

You can now adjust the game cursor velocity by heading to the settings and then the controller section. This change will apply to all cursor sections in the game’s menus like the lobby itself, the pause and inventory menus, and the death box inventories as well.

The game will now show you what music pack that you have selected to use in the game while you are dropping into the map. If you don’t have one selected and are just using the default music pack, then you will not see anything in this case.

There is an improved flow that makes going from the lobby to the match itself a bit faster than it was before, plus it should squash some minor bugs associated with this. The spawning of players before you get to character selection has been disabled so that you shouldn’t hear voices before you get there.

When you are waiting for more players to join, you will no longer be staring at a black screen but be able to see the game world as you wait. Also, the five-second countdown that would begin at the start of every legend selection is now removed.

To help you find the right ammo for you and your team, you will be able to see the ammo types of the weapons that your team is holding while you are in the inventory menu.

Apex Legends Update 3.1: Ranked Mode, Bug Fixes, and More

Apex Legends New Character Crypto Update 3.1 Patch

There are some other changes to the ranked mode as well in this update. Players will no longer receive a penalty for leaving a match if they happen to leave after two and a half minutes have passed since their banner was picked up by a teammate.

The warning of a penalty will still show up for those who are going to face punishment. If you don’t see a warning, then you are good to go. On controllers, players can open up the quip menu more quickly by holding down on the dpad or using the older method, too.

On PC, the quick chat binding should now auto-bind to F1 if it isn’t bound to anything or so long as nothing else is already bound to that key. On the bug fix side of things, there are a good number of bug fixes and changes for the game, legends, and more. You can find all of them below:

  • Fixed a bug where players would stay in place while the train keeps moving when reviving another player.
  • Updated the layout of the mini-map that was previously showing a route that doesn’t exist.
  • Fixed cases where players could drop into Out of Bounds areas without getting the timer.
  • Fixed cases of some areas where players could take lava damage near the Volcano when there isn’t any lava.
  • Fixed display issue with post-game where it would show you earning two battle pass levels for leveling up via Stars.

Crypto

  • EMP now will damage armor that players have dropped.
  • Fixed a bug where Lifeline’s drone couldn’t heal Crypto while he was in the drone.
  • Fix for friendly Caustic gas kicking Crypto out of his drone.

Bangalore

  • Fixed bug where sometimes the missiles from Bangalore’s Ultimate would disappear after landing on the train.
