Apex Legends is full of great features to help players enjoy one of the most popular battle royale games, and it has even been known for how innovative it is. The game is not perfect, and some features are still missing, like an Apex Legends spectate friend feature. 

This is something that the Reddit user TGB_Skeletor posted about on the Apex Legends subreddit page. On the page, the user noted that they would like to see the Apex Legends spectate friend added so that players can enjoy checking out what their pals are up to in their matches. 

This Apex Legends spectate friend idea is being taken directly from another battle royale game that the Reddit user skirted around mentioning, and that is none other than Fortnite. One of the best social features that the title has is seeing what your friends are up to in matches. 

As for why the Reddit user would avoid mentioning the name of Fortnite, this is likely due to the reception that the post would have gotten from simply uttering the direct competitor’s name on a rival battle royale game’s subreddit page. 

Some users on the thread even commented on this fact, noting that they should say Fortnite and let it be, while others warned against this fact since the community would have seen that name and likely immediately downvoted the post without giving it a chance. 

Some Reddit users stated that the moderators for the subreddit page would likely take down the post if Fortnite had been mentioned. Perhaps much of the discourse surrounding Fortnite and Apex Legends goes back to when Apex first came out with its revolutionary features. 

Some of the gameplay features like the ability to ping items and respawn your teammates are now commonplace in the battle royale scene, but they were done by Apex Legends first and then copied by other titles. However, that does not mean that there are no features that Apex could take from Fortnite in return. 

That is why the Reddit user proposed the Apex Legends spectate friend feature. Respawn Entertainment could easily see that Epic Games feature in Fortnite and add it to its game. The feature works because players can watch their friends’ matches even when they are not in that match. 

Let’s say, for instance, that you are meant to meet up with a friend online at a certain time and play together, but you show up in Fortnite, and they are already in a match without you. So long as the party is not full and has the settings as open to you, you can join the party anyway.

This allows you to easily communicate with one another and be prepared to play together when they are done with that match. This part is simple enough, but the added layer is great because you can spectate the friend’s match while you are in the lobby, and even though you are not in the match, too. 

Just by being at their party, you can watch them perform in the current match. This is a great way to communicate with one another, maybe even give each other tips, and perhaps help your friend out, even when you are not playing together in the same match. 

Hence, this is an excellent social feature, hence why the Reddit user would like to see a similar Apex Legends spectate friend version. It seems that the community is largely on board with this idea and would like to see it implemented, too, by the more than 2,500 upvotes and counting at this time. 

It is one of the top threads on the Apex Legends subreddit page at this time, and there are more than 100 comments in favor of this being brought to the game. Barring the comments regarding the Fortnite name not being mentioned, the other players are welcoming of this new idea. 

After all, it can be boring and even frustrating trying to wait for your friend to get out of a match when they refuse to leave it early. This could lead to some players going ahead and joining their match, which will keep the train of waiting for one another going. 

But by allowing for the Apex Legends spectate friend feature, you could then watch your friend and have fun together just by seeing what they are up to. This could even be useful when you do not want to play together and want to see how their current match is going. 

The only issue that might prevent Respawn from implementing the proposed Apex Legends spectate friend feature is that it is just not too important at this time. There are many other matters more crucial to the experience of the game, like the massive cheating problem, that this is likely to be far down the list. 

Furthermore, there are also the servers and performance that Respawn is quite particular about when it comes to Apex Legends. The developer takes its first-person shooter battle royale game quite seriously in terms of performance, so it may not like this idea that could wear down the servers some. 

Having the possibility for up to two other players to join their friend and spectate their match times 60 for every player in a match if they queue up solo will wear down the match a good bit more. This could affect performance in the end, which might turn Respawn Entertainment from using this otherwise excellent idea for a fun social feature.
