Apex Legends Skull Town Return Teased by Respawn
It looks like Apex Legends could be getting a fan-favorite location’s return very soon. Respawn Entertainment has teased the possibility of returning one of the named locations for the Kings Canyon map. It looks like we could see the return of the Apex Legends Skull Town place.
Apex Legends Skull Town Return Teased
Since we last saw the beloved locale on the Kings Canyon map, it has been quite a long time, but the recent tweet from Respawn could have hinted at its long-awaited return. Randomly out of nowhere, the official Apex Legends Twitter account put out a rather surprising tweet.
The tweet included the meme of a person peeking around the corner of a brick building outside with a look on their face, but this time in emote form. It was accompanied solely by the text asking what would happen if the developer brought back the Apex Legends Skull Town location.
And that was it. But it does seem random and rather serious if the developer is willing to tweet that out. Otherwise, it would be wrong to get the community’s hopes up and then not have this happen, so we expect that this will occur.
Fortunately, we did not have to wait long to confirm whether or not this would happen, as one of the developers at Respawn gave us some clarification about the situation that reveals that, yes, this is going to happen very soon.
Skull Town Will Seemingly Come Back This Week
Ryan Rigney, the director of comms at Respawn Entertainment, shared the tweet from the official Apex account and added his details into the mix. He noted that there would be patch notes coming out this Thursday, June 24, where players will find out more.
Suppose there are going to be actual patch notes about the situation. In that case, that tells us that the Apex Legends Skull Town return is happening and that it is coming much sooner than we anticipated. While the release may not be this Thursday, we should find out more soon.
It seems that there is going to be a new downloadable update version for the battle royale title that will bring with it some new content, including the return of the Skull Town named location. As for what else the patch notes entail, that is something that we will have to wait and see about.
What makes the Apex Legends Skull Town even more surprising is that it is a point of interest on Kings Canyon. The original battle royale map for Apex Legends is a great destination, but one that has not shown up during the Legacy season.
This Return Will Happen in Middle of the Legacy Season
That is because, from the start of the ninth season, Respawn made it clear that this season would focus mainly on the Olympus map and the return of World’s Edge. But this tells us that if Skull Town is coming back, there is a solid chance that we will see the return of Kings Canyon, too.
It just really depends on how the developer handles the Apex Legends Skull Town return. There are a few ways to go about this, and one of them would have been to wait until the 10th season when Respawn could have brought back the Kings Canyon map as a whole.
That said, this will happen right in the middle of the current Legacy season, so there are only a few options that we could find for what this will mean. The first of these is the idea that we will see Skull Town come back as a brand new Arena map for that game mode.
How We Could See Skull Town Come Back
Launched in the Legacy season, Arena is the first new game mode not related to battle royale. Two teams of three players each head to a smaller multiplayer map and battle it out in several rounds of combat. There is only one life per round.
The winner of the match is the team to reach the required number of round wins first. When it comes to the maps for this game, there are two types of locations: original ones that were not seen in the battle royale mode to date and points of interest that have been taken from existing maps and repurposed for Arena.
The latter is the option that would work for Skull Town. This is one of the most popular named locations in the history of Apex Legends for a reason, so making it into an Arena map is not only a great idea but a way to keep the legacy (sorry, not sorry) of this destination going forever.
That is the option that I think is the most likely one as we are in the middle of a season already, but there is also the chance that we could see the Apex Legends Skull Town return alongside a Kings Canyon comeback. Most seasons have events that go on for a limited time.
The Legacy season has been lacking in terms of major limited-time events with new game modes and the like, but this could change this Thursday. That would be a great way to bring back Kings Canyon for that event only this season, and with Skull Town to boot. Regardless of how it happens, it will be exciting to see Skull Town once more after its destruction in Season 5.
