Apex Legends Players Are Being Unfairly Banned for Club Names

by in Apex Legends | Aug, 2nd 2021

Apex Legends has many cheating and other issues that the community has to deal with before even bringing in offensive and insensitive content. There are always cruddy players with bad intentions regarding their in-game names and even their Apex Legends Club names.

Respawn Is Cracking Down on Apex Legends Club Names

This is something that Apex Legends is starting to crack down on, with Respawn ensuring that the name of the guild-like Clubs are always appropriate and suitable for everyone in the battle royale title. This has led to warnings and even suspensions for some players who break this rule.

This is great as it will make the game a more appropriate environment for everyone, but this has also, unfortunately, led to some unfairly harsh punishments for certain players. This was revealed by several players who posted about the situation in numerous places earlier this week.

As Respawn has begun to crack down on the inappropriate Apex Legends Club names this week, some players have experienced some unfair bans that have pushed them to reach out for support regarding the issue. To begin with, there are several threads that you can find on the official EA Support forums.

For example, the thread here from user WhiteOwllet posted a question about an email that they received regarding their Club name. How it breaks down is that they received an email noting that they have to change their name since it does not fit the regulations in place by Respawn.

Player Cannot Reportedly Change Their Club’s Name

To help with this, Respawn has gone ahead and changed the Club name for them to a randomly generated name, but the group’s leaders can change it to whatever new name they want it to be, so long as it follows the rules.

Here is the issue, though: the group’s name has reportedly not been changed like the email states, according to the player, and that it is now inaccessible in the game. Every player in the Club received the same email and an official warning about the problem.

Unfortunately, there is nothing that the player or their Clubmates can do at this time to change the name to something better suited for the community, which is problematic since they are now still breaking the rules. Since they have already been warned about this, there is the potential for further punishments if this is noticed before they can change it.

This thread, in particular, has not been answered just yet, which led to the player deleting the old Club that was inappropriate and creating a brand new one. From what we can tell, the name of the Club does not break the rules, but they have received yet another email warning them about the name.

The issue with this is that they reportedly deleted their old, rule-breaking Club and started a new one. Either this means that the player picked a new name that is also inappropriate, which does not particularly seem to be the case, or a back-end issue is causing a deeper issue.

Twitter User Has Reportedly Been Unfairly Banned

It seems like this could be the case as there are even worse problems that have happened for some players due to the Apex Legends Club names. One Twitter user, Cupcakes_3000, noted the issues that they are having in the game.

They shared the same email mentioned in the previous forum thread, where it is noted that they are in a Club with a name that is offensive, obscene, hateful, or inappropriate. This is solely a warning. There are no consequences for the person’s account that are supposed to happen because of this.

However, the Twitter user stated that they had received this email twice already in which they were “permabanned” without any explanations or actual warnings, as the email clearly states. Unfortunately, this user is far from the only one as other players in inappropriately named Clubs have reported being immediately banned without warning when this email drops.

EA and Respawn Is Working on a Fix for Banned Players

Fortunately, the person did receive a response from the official EA Help Twitter account that stated that it is updating the player accounts that are in this status. Unfortunately, it is taking some time to resolve this, so it may take a little while for the change to happen.

This is a major problem for players as it means that they are unable to play the battle royale game, or at least with their main account until the unfair suspension is lifted. It is reassuring that EA and Respawn are officially aware of this problem and are working on it, but there is no ETA on when it will be fixed.

That is the part concerning since it could be fixed for some users later today, or it could be next week, which would mean missing out on playing this weekend. There is no way to know now, so players will have to wait and see for now.

However, I highly recommend bringing this issue up to EA directly if you are dealing with the Apex Legends Club names ban yourself. Either tweet at the EA Help Twitter account or post a forum thread about the issue, with details about your account (if necessary).

The inevitable fix will likely help out everyone banned by this problem, but there is also the chance that some players could fall through the cracks and be left out of the fix. Making sure that support knows about your issue could help ensure that this does not happen.
