Apex Legends Player Receives 7,000 Free Apex Coins Randomly
A strange bug in Apex Legends recently resulted in some surprising goodies gifted to a player for no reason. Bugs are typical in games like this one, but rarely do we see some compensation. But this is exactly what happened just this past weekend for one Apex Legends player.
Apex Legends Player Receives Free Premium Currency
On Reddit, a player posted how they received 7,000 free Apex Coins without any rhyme or reason. The free Apex coins showed up in their account shortly after experiencing an issue in the game. This is according to the initial Reddit post from user Hagennn.
The user posted that a friend of theirs got disconnected from the server likely during a match and randomly received 7,000 Apex Coins for free. While this would have been awesome already if it were one of the other currencies, it is even better since it is the premium currency.
Generally, in the game, you are unable to get free Apex Coins whatsoever. If you are interested in getting this currency and want to use it to buy cosmetic items, you must shell out real-world cash in exchange for doing so.
In this case, this player didn’t have to spend a single dime on the game and received 7,000 free Apex Coins as compensation for their disconnect. The player in the game posted a picture of the account.
They are seen having 7,700 Apex Coins in their inventory. They likely had the 700 before the strange bug with 7,000 free coins added on top of that. Of course, this being only a picture and a post, this is something that you will want to take with a grain of salt.
The user in question who was able to receive the free Apex Coins for no reason was partying up with a friend in the same lobby on the PS4 version of the game. A fellow Reddit user asked how exactly this came about and the original poster was able to give some further details.
According to the user, both of them joined the same lobby on PS4, got kicked from the game and received the premium currency in exchange. They followed up with another image of a screenshot of the game, notifying that they have received free premium currency in their account.
Both users received free currency. However, the other player received much less at around 2,150 Apex Coins. That is worth around $20 or so in real-world cash, while the other player’s massive 7,000 free coins are worth around $60 or the price of a full-priced new game.
The image of the character being notified from the game server that they have received the coins is decent proof that this did happen. There are users in the Reddit thread who have reported that they also experienced this bizarre but rather generous bug as well.
Why This Free Currency Bug Could Have Happened
According to a couple of users in the thread, there are potentially two reasons why this bug could have happened. The first is that the disconnection happened at the same time as someone who purchased that amount of currency on a different account.
Let’s say that someone was purchasing 7,000 Apex Coins in the game and got disconnected or was having the transaction going through at the same time as the Reddit user disconnected from their lobby. The server could have possibly mixed up the two accounts in question.
This would have resulted in the user who was supposed to get 7,000 coins have their coins be given to the Reddit user instead. This is an unfortunate situation and one that we hope isn’t the case. Both the Reddit user and their friend checked their credit cards to be safe.
This was to ensure that they didn’t accidentally purchase the coins without wanting to. One of the players was not charged and the other has no card associated with their account that could be charged. Thankfully, though, there is another possible solution that could be the reason behind this bug.
One user said the same bug happened to them and their friend. The two of them were playing together. They used two PS4 systems on the same internet connection, but used one another’s PS4 instead of their own for the game.
Each one of them had signed into their account on the other’s PS4 console for some reason and was playing the game. After around two minutes into a game, they both got kicked and they received premium currency for free right then.
Reportedly, the coins the user received was how many their friend bought previously and vice versa. Playing on the other PS4 or getting disconnected together resulted in receiving coins that the other player purchased previously.
There was even a thread from several months back where a player received an uncanny 75,000 Apex Coins for free in the game. They contacted EA support and was told that it was fine. They used the currency to purchase whatever they wanted in the game.
What to Do If You Get Free Currency
For those who are affected by this bug, contact EA support to be safe. Other games have banned players for using the potentially exploited currency. If you contact EA directly it shouldn’t be a problem to use.
As for anyone else who hasn’t experienced this bug naturally and accidentally, we do not recommend that you attempt to recreate this bug in your game. It could very well be a violation of the terms of service for the game and could result in a swift ban if EA discovers it.
Neither EA nor Respawn Entertainment have yet to comment. It is strange since it has been possible for potentially months now. But we do expect it to be fixed eventually, once it is brought to the developer’s attention.
