Apex Legends Patch 1.20 Season 3 Breakdown
The long-awaited Apex Legends season three, Meltdown, has arrived. Respawn Entertainment has released the full patch notes for the season three update that brings with it a ton of new additions, changes, and more to the popular battle royale game.
These changes include a brand new map for players to try out in battle royale, a new playable character to use, and much more. The Apex Legends patch 1.20 notes are equally massive and detail everything that comes with this huge update.
The update is available right now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We have downloaded the PS4 update on our system and it is coming up as just over 7GB to download on that platform, which is surprisingly large for an update for the game. To understand why it’s so big, let’s take a look at what this update offers to players.
Apex Legends Patch 1.20: Crypto Hacks Onto the Scene
The first and one of the most important changes in Apex Legends patch 1.20 is the addition of a new hero to play as. His name is Crypto and he is a hacker with a special drone unique to him that he can use in battle. He is a different type of hero who will shake up the current metagame.
Crypto has three main abilities like every other hero: a passive ability, tactical, and ultimate. His passive ability, Neurolink, is available at all times and allows him and his teammates to see what his surveillance drone is able to detect at all times for up to 30 meters in distance.
His main tactical ability is Surveillance Drone, which allows him to deploy an aerial camera drone that has a 40-second cool down if it is destroyed in battle. That is the same drone that you will want to deploy if you wish to take advantage of Crypto’s passive that gives you and your team the ability to see around you.
This also applies to his ultimate ability, which is called Drone EMP. This causes your done to fire off an EMP blast that deals 50 shield damage, slows down players that it hits, and destroys any traps in the vicinity as well. Overall, there is impressive synergy between all three of his abilities.
They all work in tandem but the issue is there as well. Everything hinges on the drone no matter which ability you look at. With the fact that the drone has a 40-second cool down, it makes this even weirder. Considering how important the drone is to Crypto, it would make sense for it to be less than that.
Perhaps Respawn will change in the future but, in the meantime, it will be interesting to see how this hacker changes the current meta. He will be a useful attacker for teams since he is able to reveal what’s going on around the team and then also make some surprise attacks in the process.
Apex Legends Patch 1.20: New World’s Edge Map and Charge Rifle Weapon
The other biggest change in Apex Legends patch 1.20 besides Crypto is the new map that players are able to enjoy. The new map is called World’s Edge and it completely replaces King’s Canyon as the battle royale map at this time. It is uncertain if this is a permanent change or if the old map will return.
World’s Edge is located on the planet of Talos that is varied in landscape much more so than even King’s Canyon prior to it. It has different aspects to it like the molten lava pits that players will need to navigate carefully to the frozen skyscrapers to the train hinted at in the trailer.
There is also a brand new weapon for players to check out in the form of the charge rifle. The charge rifle is an energy weapon that is a new sniper rifle that was very much needed considering how few there are of them. Given the charge name to it, it is one that you will need to practice with.
This is because the charge rifle takes a second to charge up and it will do minor damage to those players who are in the crosshairs of it while it is warming up. Once you completely fire it, though, it will deal massive damage to whomever receives the full effect of its hit.
Players will be able to find the charge rifle all across the new map as part of the standard loot in the game. It is an energy weapon as well as a sniper rifle, which is great since there aren’t too many energy weapons in the game currently either and this adds to the growing arsenal.
Apex Legends Patch 1.20: Season 3 Battle Pass Details
With the release of season three, there is a new battle pass as well for players to purchase and start collecting rewards from. There are a couple of brand new rewards this season, in particular, including the gun charms that will allow you to customize your gun and really make it unique to you.
There are also more new music packs, legendary loading screens, and skydiving emotes for players to collect in the season three battle pass. Of course, you are able to immediately unlock some rewards just for purchasing the season three battle pass in the first place.
You will instantly unlock the legendary Reckoner DMR when you get the battle pass plus three new skins for some of the heroes in the game. Like the other two battle passes, there are 100 levels for players to unlock over the course of the several months that the season will stick around.
Doing so will get players various rewards like the legendary items of the Iced Out Pathfinder skin, From the Ashes Lifeline skin, and the reactive Frostbite Peacekeeper skin. There are well over 100 items in total that paid players can receive for completing the entire season three battle pass.
However, free players aren’t left in the dust either. Every player who plays through season three can earn themselves the Freezer Burn Caustic skin, five Apex packs to unlock, season three stat trackers for each of the heroes in the game, and a Mirage loading screen.
If you are looking to purchase the paid version of the season three battle pass, you are going to need to either buy it with the in-game currency for 950 coins or spend 2800 Apex coins for instantly unlocking the first 25 levels, which includes the Iced Out Pathfinder skin.
(Un)Fortunately, there really is so much that players can look forward to in this update that is one of the biggest ever for the game and we weren’t able to cover it all.
