Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1 Breakdown

by in Apex Legends | Apr, 19th 2019

Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1 launched this week, and it’s going to shake up the current Apex meta quite a bit. There were many weapon balancing updates included in this patch. The Havoc (often a neglected gun) got buffed, while the powerful Spitfire and Wingman both got hit with the nerf hammer. Also, the big boys — Caustic and Gibraltar — received some significant buffs that will make them much harder to kill (you no longer have to dodge if you get one of these behemoths on your team).

Here’s everything you need to know about Apex Legends Patch 1.1.1.

Character Buffs

Gibraltar

  • Now has another Passive Perk known as Fortified — this will reduce damage taken by 10%
  • Gun Shield health has been increased from 50 to 75.

Gibraltar will still be easy to shoot due to his large hit box, but now he’ll survive a lot longer with his new Fortified passive and Gun Shield buff (his Dome of Protection helps too).

Gibraltar is now officially a true Tank character…woo-hoo brotha!

Caustic

  • Now has another Passive Perk known as Fortified — this will reduce damage taken by 10%
  • Gas Damage per tick has been increased from 1 to 4.
  • He can now throw his ultimate farther — increased from 28 meters to 33 meters.

Just like Gibraltar, Caustic needed survivability help, so he got the Fortified passive as well.

And his gas abilities received more buffs…this mad scientist’s poisonous traps just got a lot deadlier (beware of the Bunker).

Weapon Buffs

Sniper Rifles (G-7 Scout/ Longbow / Triple Take)

  • Leg shot damage reduction has been decreased from 25% to 10%.
  • Base weapon sway reduced by around 33%
  • Base weapon sway speed reduced by around 25%

All the sniper rifles now do more damage to the limbs of enemies and they’ll be easier to control (the 4x scope might actually be useful now).

Longbow

  • Fire rate increased from 1.2 to 1.6.
  • Base mag size increased from 5 to 6 rounds.
  • Common mag increased from 6 to 8 rounds.
  • Rare mag increased from 8 to 10 rounds.
  • Epic mag increased from 10 rounds to 12 rounds.

The Longbow love is real this patch.

This gun never had issues with damage, but it’s firing rate and small clip hindered its power. Now, it won’t feel as clunky with the firing rate and mag size buffs.

The Longbow might just be the new Wingman of Apex Legends.

Havoc

  • Base magazine increased from 25 to 32 rounds.
  • Charge Beam cost per shot reduced from 5 to 4.
  • Close range damage has been increased from 55 to 60.
  • Damage at range increased from 45 to 50.
  • Close range damage falloff has been increased from 35m to 75m.
  • Ranged damage falloff has been increased from 75m to 125m.

These buffs give the Havoc a lot more power: its small magazine size has been increased, it’s now possible to use this as a ranged weapon, and it will be absolutely devastating at close-range (hip fire all day, every day).

It still has its annoying spin-up time (you’ll need a Turbocharger to fix that), but this gun definitely moves up the weapon tier list with these buffs, and it might actually be better than the Devotion now.

Time to stop ignoring the Havoc.

Gold Guns

  • Gold Wingman now has the digital threat scope.
  • Gold R-301 now has the 1x-2x variable holo site.
  • Gold Havoc now has the Turbocharger and 1x-2x variable holo site.

Respawn actually listened to the community and gave these Gold Guns the proper optimal attachments…nice.

Weapon Nerfs

Spitfire

  • Base damage reduced from 20 to 18.
  • All extended magazines have been nerfed.
  • Common mag reduced from 45 to 40.
  • Rare mag reduced from 55 to 45.
  • Epic mag reduced from 60 to 55.

The Spitfire has been overpowered for quite a while (mostly due to it’s ridiculously large magazine potential).

And the Spitfire should still be strong after these nerfs, but at least now, Spitfire users will actually have to reload at some point.

Wingman

  • Base magazine size reduced from 6 to 4 rounds.
  • Common mag reduced from 8 to 6 rounds.
  • Rare mag reduced from 9 to 8 rounds.
  • Epic mag reduced from 12 to 10 rounds.

They didn’t touch the Wingman’s damage, but this mag reduction nerf is rough, especially to its early game power (only 4 rounds in one clip…).

Late game though, this hand cannon will still be powerful with an epic mag, so don’t totally give up on the Wingman (even though it appears like Respawn wants you to).
