Apex Legends Hit Registration Bug Causes Player to Deal No Damage

by in Apex Legends | Nov, 26th 2019

Apex Legends is no stranger to bugs in the game. This latest one is one of the most game-breaking bugs we have seen in quite a long time. A Reddit user recently posted a clip directly pulled from the game of this unbelievable bug happening where their gun deals no damage whatsoever.

Reddit User Posts Video of Dealing No Damage to Enemy

Reddit user Styxvfx posted a clip of a recent match they were in with the simple caption of “insane no hit [registration.] What is this?” In the clip, the user is seen duking it out against some enemies in the middle of the city. There are two enemies that they are dealing with at once.

While on the rooftop of one of the large buildings in the city, the user grabs loot from a recently fallen enemy. They look down from the rooftop and see one of the two enemy players down below.

They start firing down on the player and quickly kill them within a few seconds before the opponent can fire back. In that moment, everything goes as it should and there is nothing wrong with any sort of bug.

What comes directly after is where the Apex Legends hit registration bug comes into play. The player jumps down from the rooftop and enters a building. They go to the second floor and discover the other player around the corner.

The two immediately jump into the next fight. This is where the Apex Legends hit registration bug becomes an issue. The Reddit user shoots their gun at the opponent with good accuracy.

No damage numbers appear above the enemy player while getting hit. It leads someone to believe that the user was not hitting the player after all, but this isn’t the case.

If you watch the clip from the Reddit user (shown above), you can hear bullets hitting their intended target. There are blood splatter effects on the wall behind the enemy player and the player hit their target directly.

Without a doubt, those bullets were hitting the enemy player. However, there was no damage whatsoever. It led the player to believe that there is some Apex Legends hit registration bug.

Because the player is not dealing any damage, despite hitting them correctly, the other player can kill them. It seems that there were no hit detection issues for the opponent. They can kill the Reddit user with ease, wiping out his squad in the process.

How This Hit Registration Bug Could Have Happened

There are a few factors that could have led to the Apex Legends hit registration bug. The user would have killed the enemy first if they hadn’t encountered this game-breaking bug.

There is the question of if the enemy player was a hacker. This is always a possibility given that there are hackers known to inhabit the online battle royale game. However, it is not the case here. The Reddit users in the comments of the original post help alleviate that scenario.

The bug is a widespread issue many players are dealing with. One possibility could have to do with the platform that players are on. The user in the video, for instance, is playing on PC.

It is a possibility that this is not an issue on the console versions of the game. Unfortunately, other players didn’t reveal which platform they are on. So, it is difficult to see if it could be an isolated issue for PC players.

It could also be the weapon or ammo, something that other users in the comments hint at as well. One user suggested it could be the heavy ammo.

They have seen it happen in the past with the Wingman and Hemlok weapons which use heavy ammo. This is the first time the user has seen someone with a Prowler weapon issue. In the clip, the player is seen using the Prowler. Other commentators noted the same bug with light ammo weapons like the R-99 and G7 Scout.

Past Issues with Hit Bug Registration

This isn’t the first time the hit bug registration has been an issue. In May, Respawn Entertainment released a patch to eliminate cases of the incorrect hit registration after many complaints from users.

Even after the update, it didn’t take long for players to release clips of it still being a problem. There are likely cases of the bug unfixed in the patch. It means they fell through the cracks and were never fixed later.

The same situations could be the cause of the current bug issue the Reddit user posted about. According to some players, it could be the net code. These included players getting shot through walls and closed doors, as well as bullets going through an enemy as if they were a ghost or something.

We will have to wait to see how this bug will be resolved. Respawn has yet to acknowledge the bug at the time of writing this.
