Apex Legends Hacked With ‘Save Titanfall’ Messages on the 4th of July
Apex Legends has been in some murky waters lately regarding the hacking situation, with cheaters becoming more and more rampant throughout the battle royale game, especially when it comes to ranked. But nothing compared to the latest stunt that involved some ‘Save Titanfall’ messages.
Hackers Take Over Apex Legends With Save Titanfall Messages
On the 4th of July, otherwise known as Independence Day in the U.S., a possible group of hackers chose to initiate a mission to take over the battle royale game for the day with some insane maneuvers. The group was successful in hacking the game, as noticed by YungLucianOG on Twitter.
When this happened, it was not the standard hacking situation where someone has a perfect aim or is immune to the storm, or anything like that, as this had to do with the actual game itself. The people responsible were able to hack the entire game server to spread their message.
When players tried to enter a match in a playlist, they would be greeted with an error screen of sorts that showed that they are unable to enter a match right now. But instead of the usual error screen of no matches found or something like that, they were met with a very different set of words.
Instead, the error message read for players to visit the Save Titanfall website to find more information about what is going on. That is all it would say, leading many in the community to believe that the website owners were behind the hacking incident that happened on the 4th of July.
The Timing of This Incident Is Important
Furthermore, the hacking did not stop there as players could also go into the playlists selection screen and find that it was all looking completely incorrect, with more Save Titanfall messages found there, too. On Sunday, July 4, the game was still virtually unplayable for us.
For the better part of this holiday in the U.S., Apex Legends has been unplayable due to the Save Titanfall hackers. This is timing that was likely deliberately chosen as the population of the game was most likely fairly high on the 4th of July, compared to most weekends.
With many people off of work and spending time at home, along with summer vacation happening for many students, this meant that the game was likely going to get a lot of players on the 4th of July. We imagine that the perpetrators wished to get as much attention on this incident as possible.
Furthermore, there is the complicated issue of this being a federal holiday in the U.S., where Respawn Entertainment and publisher EA are located. There is the likelihood if Respawn is anything like Epic Games, that the Apex Legends devs are taking some much-deserved time off during this holiday.
That would mean that the hackers took full advantage of the game’s attention during the 4th of July weekend and the fact that the developers are possibly away enjoying time with their family and friends as they should make this happen.
Furthermore, there is even the fact that this is all happening while the Genesis collection event is live in the Legacy season, as the first major limited-time event in some time. This event has brought back some fan-favorite maps like the original Kings Canyon and World’s Edge.
Save Titanfall Website Reportedly Has Nothing to Do With the Hacking
It is quite unfortunate that this has happened this way as the message of Save Titanfall is otherwise an important one for the players who still love that game. When you head to the Save Titanfall website that the hackers were directing players to, you can see at the top an important message right now.
The owners of the website state that this website, nor the Discord servers listed there, are not at all associated with the recent hacking in Apex Legends. The website tries to clarify that the creators of this campaign to save Titanfall have nothing to do with the hack.
Regardless, it is known as Operation Red Tape on the site and has to do with saving Titanfall from, ironically, the rampant hacking issues that are on the rise in the multiplayer title. According to the site, the Titanfall community has been asking Respawn to fix the game for over three years, but with no results at this time.
Save Titanfall Campaign Explained
Furthermore, the 2014 game is still being sold today on various storefronts and platforms, despite “being completely unplayable.” Details are a bit light on how exactly the game is unplayable due to the hackers, but a screenshot from the PC version of someone trying to connect to a game.
But when they try to connect to a game, they receive an error message stating that there are “no servers found,” which is a problem that we have seen in the past for Apex Legends. Fortunately, though, that was an issue that was subsequently fixed by Respawn in a decent amount of time.
But, according to the Save Titanfall website, this is an issue that has been going on for more than three years. Worse, they have reached out to Respawn through the official public channels like support chat and the like, with the responses essentially stopping as soon as Titanfall 1 is mentioned.
Despite this, the game is still on sale through EA’s Origin service and even Steam, where you can find reviews of players complaining about the game being unplayable right now. Despite being reportedly aware of this situation, Respawn will celebrate the anniversary of the first Titanfall game even though players are unable actually to play it online.
Worse still, this situation has gone on for a long time. There is no mention of the state of the game on Steam or Origin. This looks to be problematic, but one has gotten a ton of (bad) attention now due to the recent hacking incident in Apex Legends.
The fact that someone could hack the servers of the battle royale title to make it also unplayable is quite worrisome and shows just how dire the hacking problem is for Apex right now. Hopefully, we will find out more about what is going on and what the developer plans to do in the future regarding Apex Legends and the Titanfall series soon.
