Apex Legends ‘Fight or Fright’ Halloween Event Kicks off Next Week

by in Apex Legends | Oct, 9th 2019

Respawn Entertainment has announced the latest event that is coming to the famous battle royale game Apex Legends. The first-ever limited-time spooky Halloween-themed event is happening in the game called Fight or Fright. The Apex Legends Fight or Fright event arrives next week.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright Event Announced

The Apex Legends Fight or Fright event begins next week on Tuesday, October 15. The new seasonal event will allow players to participate in some exciting new content themed around this spooky time of year. It also offers incredible rewards that you won’t be able to get anywhere else.

The most important new feature is the new limited-time mode that players will be able to participate in during the few weeks that this event is around. The new limited-time mode is called Shadowfall, and it brings back a favorite fan location.

Season three of the battle royale game began just this month, and one of the most notable changes this season was the release of the new World’s End map. The brand-new map was released not as an addition to the King’s Canyon map from the previous two seasons but as a replacement for it.

Some players were disappointed to find that the new map has taken over the previous one, and they are no longer able to play matches in it. However, the Apex Legends Fight or Fright event will be bringing back King’s Canyon for players to enjoy but in a twisted way.

Apex Legends New Limited-Time Mode Shadowfall Details

Apex Legends King's Canyon Map

The Shadowfall limited-time mode features players battling it out on a unique nighttime version of the old King’s Canyon map. Oddly enough, the old map didn’t have any nighttime at all, and matches were always played out during the daytime, despite other games like Fortnite having nighttime.

Shadowfall will be a warped version of the map that is being hosted by a mysterious figure that Respawn is keeping its lips sealed on. Our theory is that this is likely an upcoming new hero that will be joining the roster, or it could be Crypto, who was released with the start of season three.

The Shadowfall limited-time mode will bring back the fan-favorite solo mode that was only featured once during the game when the last limited-time event happened recently. This time around, though, this solo mode will have a nice haunted twist on it that will breathe some new life into the game.

At the start of the match, the player and 34 other solo players will be dropped into the scary new version of King’s Canyon. Players will have to fight to the death, or undeath, with a surprising twist. Dying in this particular mode doesn’t mean that the game is over for you.

You can keep playing but not because there are respawns. Instead, dying in this Shadowfall mode will cause you to come back as an undead version of your particular legend as you join the new Shadow Squad in the mode.

Being an undead player means that you are unable to use traditional weapons and guns like before, and your legend abilities will be taken away from you. In return, though, you will get increased movement and jump speed to your character over normal players plus a brutal melee attack.

You’ll be able to scale walls at a fast speed and have unlimited respawns as a member of the undead until the end of the match. The battle will continue like this with the Shadow Squad attempting to kill off as many members of the living as possible a la Halo’s Infected.

Everything will change, though, when there are only 10 living legends left alive in the game. Those 10 players will then need to stop fighting each other and join together to make it to an evac ship, while the Shadow Squad tries to kill them all off before they can escape the haunted map.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright Event Challenges

Players will have the chance, like the Iron Crown event, to complete various challenges that are exclusive to the Apex Legends Fight or Fright event for some sweet, spooky rewards. Some of the challenges include skills, escaping the map, and even just for logging in.

Players who log in for the first time during the Fight or Fright event will receive a free music pack that is centered around it. Then there is an elimination challenge that has three badge tiers to it. The first one requires you to kill a single member of the Shadow Squad in Shadowfall.

Doing so will grant you the Fight or Fright badge one. Then if you can get 50 kills against the shadows in Shadowfall, you will receive the upgrade tier two of the badge. Last but not least, if you can escape on the drop ship at least 25 times in Shadowfall, you will get the tier three badge.

In terms of other challenges for the event, if you can kill 25 loot bin spiders or zombies in Shadowfall, you will receive the Ghostly Graveyard weapon skin for the R301 gun. That challenge in and of itself confirms that there will be other creepy crawlies that players will have to worry about on the map.

Then if you can kill 50 living legends in Shadowfall, you will receive the Wildfire Octane legend skin. If you can get a win as both a living legend and a member of the Shadow Squad, you will receive the Nocturnal Elegance weapon skin for the Devotion LMG.

Last but certainly not least, if you complete a total of 20 daily challenges during the whole event, you will earn the Haymaker weapon skin for the Alternator SMG. Of course, the exclusive rewards for the event aren’t the unique cosmetic items that you can get.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright Event Cosmetics

There is a slew of cosmetic items ranging from character skins to weapon skins that players will be able to purchase with in-game currency. There are a total of 24 cosmetic items themed around the season, and every single one of them will be available for collecting on the first day of the event.

There are three main methods that players can get 24 cosmetic items. That is through directly purchasing them using your in-game currency, crafting them in the menus, or by unlocking them in the randomized Apex packs.

The first method is the most direct and straightforward way, and that is through purchasing them individually with your coins. There are two types of cosmetics in the event items, and those are the legendary and epic items. You won’t find any common or uncommon in this event.

The legendary cosmetic items that are available for purchase will cost players 1800 Apex coins to purchase. On the other hand, epic items will only require nearly half of that at 1000 Apex coins each. If you don’t want to spend your hard-earned cash on these items, you can get them for free in-game as well.

You can do this by crafting the items individually using crafting metals that you have earned in the game. Oddly enough, the gap between the legendary and epic items is much higher when it comes to the cost of crafting them as opposed to purchasing them directly.

The legendary items, for instance, cost 2400 crafting metals to make a single piece of the items while the epic items only cost 800 crafting metals to make. Even still, there is one more option for players to select when it comes to finding these 24 cosmetic items.

If you aren’t worried too much about which items you get and want to save some money in the process, you can opt for the Apex packs. These are randomized so that you aren’t sure what you’re going to get ahead of time. Because of the RNG nature, the Apex packs are much cheaper than the other methods at only 700 Apex coins.

Compared to the previous event, players don’t have to worry about getting event-specific currency anymore. Instead, players will be receiving additional loot that makes getting more items that you want for cheaper. Better yet, there is no duplicated period in the Apex packs for the event.

This means that if you want to get all 24 items, you can get them for cheaper just by purchasing enough Apex packs. This will save you a lot of currency in the process. Players who only want one or two different items should stick to crafting or purchasing them unless you want them all.

Each of the Fight or Fright character skins that are available in the event will come with two themed quips to use. Finally, in the realm of cosmetic items, Respawn is changing how players can get the latest heirloom set added to the game.

The new heirloom set this time around is for Lifeline. You are able to get her set for free during the event if you happen to unlock all 24 of the Fight or Fright cosmetic items that are available for purchase and crafting. However, if you don’t happen to get all 24, you can still get the set in the future.

The themed Lifeline heirloom set will be added as a bonus in Apex packs in the future after the event ends. Players can look forward to a double experience weekend soon as well during the event. From October 25-28, players will be able to receive double XP for top-five placements and wins.

The double XP weekend begins at 10 am PT on October 25 and comes to an end at the same time on October 28. The bonus experience will affect both the account level that you have and the battle pass progression for season three as well.

Apex Legends Fight or Fright Start Date, Other Details

Apex Legends Fight or Fright event will begin on October 15 and will run for a few weeks just past Halloween until November 5. The event is regarded as a collection event, which is only one of the three types of events that Respawn releases for the game.

A collection event is centered around a limited-time mode offered plus event challenges where the player can earn cosmetics and a set of event-specific limited-time cosmetics that are available through packs or directly purchasing them.

The other two events are season launches and themed events. The former are events tied around the start of a brand-new season. These feature a significant map update for the game plus a new legend, new loot items like weapons, changes to the overall meta, balance, and more.

The third and final event type are the themed events that occur during a season and bring with them a limited-time mode, event challenges, and a mix of event limited and evergreen cosmetics that players can directly purchase in the in-game store.

While the season launches are known for their major map changes, both the themed and collection events like Fight or Fright can possibly have smaller map updates as well. This is seen in the case of Shadowfall where players get to fight around a spookier King’s Canyon map than usual.
