A Hat in Time: Vanessa’s Curse Launches Soon

There’s been a severe lack of 3D platformers in the gaming industry as of late. However, one of the more recent ones to come out is getting some new content. What started as a colorful and fun romp through 3D worlds inspired by Mario 64 and Sunshine has turned into a massive indie hit. It has players using a variety of hats to help a character named Hat kid fix their spaceship to find their way home. The game even spawned a few DLC chapters of its own, with Seal the Deal and Nyakuza Metro, which also brought an online aspect to the game, allowing players to play through the events of the title with their friends online as a party.

One of the biggest parts of the title was the mods for the game. Gears for Breakfast knows this and has started their Creator DLC program, which opts to help developers QA test mods bigger than the scope of a normal mod and promote them for the rest of the community. One of the first pieces of Creator DLC to come out is a DLC called “Vanessa’s Curse.”

A Hat in Time: Vanessa’s Curse

Players are going to be able to check out the DLC when it launches on November 27. The mod will let players take control of multiple hat kids at once inside a large map. The goal of the game is simple, to acquire all the crowns. However, there’s a twist to the mode that will make it more difficult for the players to complete their mission. One of the players will become cursed. Their job is to curse all the other players.

This turns the game into a 3D platformer version of Infected. However, the only option for players is not to fight back but to run for their lives and hope they can collect all the crowns before they all become cursed.

The mod aims to give players some new items in the game and implement new hats the player can get by running around and collecting crowns and completing matches. There are also going to be modifications, meaning that at any time, the game world will become more difficult to traverse, from the world becoming frozen, or the world becoming flooded, or the addition of fog the normal players can’t see through.

The game also plans on expanding the lore, with the theory about the character called “The Snatcher” being the prince in the story of Queen Vanessa. Being that she’s the reason the character became the way that he is. However, in the DLC, it’s intended that The Snatcher is attempting to seek revenge on Vanessa by sending multiple Hat Kids into her castle to steal crowns from the palace.

While the Seal the Deal and Nyakuza Metro are on PlayStation, Xbox and Switch, this new DLC, since it comes with content from the community, will be PC exclusive. Thus, the mode is connected to the lore of the game. The DLC will cost $2.99 for players who want to jump in on the fun on Steam. It’s listed as published by Gears for Breakfast and developed by Creator DLC. The two developers of the DLC, Werti and Jasmine, have stated that they’ve received support from Gears for Breakfast with “developer feedback, QA support, and promotional work,” which has been shown by the appearance of the trailer for the DLC on the game’s official YouTube page. The only stipulation for this new DLC is that it will not be available on the console versions of the game.

Gears for Breakfast is done working on A Hat in Time. They’ve moved onto a different project. However, they’re not going to let their title die. They’re giving the title to the creators now, working with them to create new experiences and adventures in the game. With all this in mind, it seems that Vanessa’s Curse is going to bring a lot of people who like the title back into it to play once more, and with the content being a multiplayer experience, players are going to further the mod and the title by showcasing their games online. This sounds like a win-win for everyone.
