2021 Mid-Season Invitational Supposedly Happening in Iceland
Here’s a bit of fantastic news: the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational is supposedly going to take place in Reykjavík, Iceland. We’re talking about a staggeringly beautiful city, but also surrounded by some of the most breath-taking scenery you’ll ever gaze upon. And from May 6-22, it’ll host the second most important international tournament of the year. So, you’d be wise to mark your calendar.
It’s been two whole years since the last Mid-Season Invitational, and the fact that we’re even getting one this time around is phenomenal, especially given the circumstances. We can’t wait to see the best teams in the world collide for a sizable stack of cash and a shot at making history. The former isn’t nearly as important as the latter, but it sure does sweeten the deal! The fact that it’ll go down in a unique country like Iceland only makes it all the more exciting. The 2021 Mid-Season Invitational itself is rumored to take place at the Laugardalshöll football stadium.
A Positive Change
We’ve all become accustomed to our favorite tournaments getting postponed or canceled. We all understand why it’s happening, but it’s still a bitter pill to swallow. Player health and safety needs to come first, but we all have that competitive League itch, and getting it scratched hasn’t been particularly easy over the last twelve months. Heck, we’re putting it mildly here.
Fortunately, Iceland seems to be the perfect location. They have an astonishingly low number of COVID-19 cases per 100,000 residents (some of the best numbers in Europe, in fact). That’s about as good a place to organize MSI in as it gets. Whether there will be a live audience for the 2021 Mid-Season Invitational remains to be seen. Don’t hold your breath for it to happen.
In any case, these are quite exciting times if you’re a fan of competitive League. If things pan out as expected, we should be in for one of the most memorable tournaments in recent history.
