2021 LPL & LCK Off-Season: Chovy to Gen.G, Bdd to Nongshim
The 2021 LPL and LCK off-season has been wholly chaotic, which was to be expected — we’re talking about two regions with the absolute best and most sought-after players the world of competitive LoL has to offer.
Keeping track of it all is quite a tedious task and, well, it is made ever more complicated by the unrelenting onslaught of rumors and unverified reports. Fortunately, with the off-season slowly but surely reaching its end, the bigger picture has finally started to appear.
There’s a lot of ground to cover, so let’s get down to the nitty-gritty!
2021 LPL & LCK Off-Season | Roster Changes Galore
- Choi “Doran” Hyeon-joon, Han “Peanut” Wang-ho, Jeong “Chovy” Ji-hoon, and Son “Lehends” Si-woo have all joined Gen.G for the 2022 competitive season, as previously reported. This team, in short, has all the hallmarks of a bona fide titan. Whether it’ll end up leaving a mark regionally still remains to be seen (DWG KIA and T1 are still a cut above), but anything other than a Top 3 finish would be a debacle. All in all, keep an eye on Gen.G going forward as they’re going to pack one heck of a punch!
- Gwak “Bdd” Bo-seong has been traded for Peanut and will compete for Nongshim Redforce going forward. He’ll be joined by Lee “Dread” Jin-hyeok, Lee “Effort” Sang-ho, and probably T1’s Kim “Canna” Chang-dong, too.

- Kim “Life” Jeong-min and Kim “Rascal” Kwang-hee, formerly of Gen.G, have signed with KT Rolster.
- Park “Viper” Do-hyeon and Tian “Meiko” Ye have both re-signed with Edward Gaming — to absolutely no one’s surprise.
- Kim “Doinb” Tae-sang has parted ways with FunPlus Phoenix and will compete for LNG Esports going forward.
- Jang “Nuguri” Ha-gwon, one of the best top laners in the history of the game, has decided to take a sabbatical. He will, therefore, miss out on the 2022 competitive season. There’s a small chance that he’ll return mid-year, but that’s just a possibility.
- Park “Morgan” Gi-tae has parted ways with Hanwha Life Esports.
- Lee “Faker” Sang-hyeok has re-signed with T1. Name a more iconic duo — we’ll wait.
- Park “Teddy” Jin-Sung, Ryu “Hoit” Ho-Sung, Yoo “FATE” Su-Hyeok, and Choi “Ellim” El-Lim will all compete under the Afreeca Freecs banner going forward.
- Jian “Uzi” Zi-Hao, of Royal Never Give Up fame, will reportedly return to pro play. He is reportedly on the verge of signing with Bilibili Gaming. If things go “according to plan,” he’ll compete alongside Chen “Bin” Ze-Bin (formerly of Suning), Gao “Tian” Tian-Liang (former FunPlus Phoenix jungler), Zhuo “knight” Ding (Top Esports), and fellow LPL legend Shi “Ming” Sen-Ming. This roster is still a heavy work in progress so take everything you’ve just read with a grain of salt. With that being said, if things really pan out this way, Bilibili Gaming will have one heck of a line-up!
- Former Beyond Gaming marksman and PCS standout Chiu “Doggo” Tzu-Chuan has reportedly signed for an LPL team.
Closing Remarks
Even though a large number of signings have been made official, there are still many moving pieces, especially in the LPL. We’ll be back with another breakdown once the dust settles! Based on the way things are unfolding, we’d be remiss if we didn’t say that 2022 looks like another spectacular year for the LPL and LCK. They’re currently atop the world of competitive League and, by the looks of it, they won’t relinquish their enviable position any time soon!
