The 2021 LEC Start Date Has Been Officially Announced

by in League of Legends | Dec, 16th 2020

The 2021 LEC competitive season is scheduled to start on Jan. 22. This, in short, is insanely exciting news if you’re a fan of the European region or, well, top-tier competitive League in general. There are so many exciting new storylines and narratives coming into 2021, and we truly can’t wait for the season to begin!

What Will the Upcoming Season Look Like?

There’s still a couple of question marks, however. What will the schedule look like? Will we see format changes, like in the LCS? Will players return to the LEC studio in Berlin or, conversely, continue competing in an online-online environment? The COVID-19 pandemic has by no means subdued (in fact, on the contrary), so it stands to reason that we might be locked into yet another season of games without a live audience. It’s not what anyone wants to hear, but player health and safety needs to come first.

These are by no means burning questions, but they’re nonetheless incredibly important in the grand scheme of things. After all, the start of the 2021 LEC season is right around the corner, so it’s only natural to start wondering how it’ll look like in a couple of weeks.

As always, we can expect a repeat of the most recent LEC grand finals to start the season off. That being the oh-so-alluring clash between G2 Esports and Fnatic, the current and former “kings of Europe,” respectively. Hundreds of thousands of fans are eagerly awaiting their return and given just how the off-season developed. It’s easy to understand why. Seeing Martin “Rekkles” Larsson represent G2 Esports will be a sight you do now want to miss!

In any case, 2021 can’t come soon enough! If this most recent off-season is any indication, we should be in for one heck of a ride. As always, we’ll bring you any updates from the moment they hit the web.
