It’s always hard to contain our excitement whenever there’s a brand-new dev post, and this latest one did not disappoint — the 2021 League of Legends Champion Roadmap is more than worthy of a full-fledged breakdown, so let’s dive straight into it! Most of what was unveiled is pretty darn exciting (to say the least), and it definitely sets the stage for what’s to come!

• Both upcoming champions will be tied to Viego and the Ruination in some way, shape, or form. Riot is using these additions to the game as a vessel for storytelling, with Gwen being the first release to set things in motion. Masterful work, indeed!
• Dr. Mundo’s VGU is nearly complete and he should be hitting live servers in just a couple of weeks. There’s still no set release date, but we’re thinking two months at most!
• A marksman specifically designed for mid lane — a “full on Sentinel of Light” — is coming our way. His kit will supposedly be oriented towards roaming and solo laning which will make this mysterious champion quite unique. He’ll also have direct ties to Lucian and Senna and is supposed to be a force of good. Either way, we’ll have to keep tight until Riot decides to release additional information. If anything, we know that this Sentinel is supposed to come out next, so expect an official release date in just a couple of months!
• Riot needs a bit more time to work on the upcoming Yordle champion — an ill-tempered mid lane mage who’ll supposedly play a huge role in Viego’s story. She was initially supposed to be an artillery mage (think Ziggs and Xerath), but has since been transmuted into a more traditional AP one for reasons unknown.
• We’re also getting a bottom lane marksman by the end of the year and, based on the few bits of information Riot provided, this champion seems to hail from Zaun.
• Udyr’s VGU is still in the early stage of development, but at least we have a bit of concept art to marvel at. The folks over at Riot still haven’t decided which route to go for, so if you’ve got a favorite, make sure your voice is heard — cast your “vote” on Reddit and social media!

Overall, it’s nice getting these periodic updates from Riot and, needless to say, the 2021 champion roadmap did not disappoint. There’s quite a lot to look forward to and, if recent history is any indication, we’re sure Riot has a couple of surprises in store as well. Of course there are many ways in which things could go awry, but Riot has a fairly stellar record so there’s no reason to start doubting them now.

We’re excited most for the upcoming mid lane marksman as that’ll be a fairly unique champion by design. This “Sentinel of Light” has the potential to be quite an impactful release, and we can’t wait to see him in action! As always, we’ll bring you any updates from the moment they hit the web, so stay tuned!
